Starup pink noise
When I startup my iMac I get a loud ping sound. How can this be turned off?

You can try this prefpane. I have been using it without problems on my G4.
Make sure you read the documentation in case you have trouble. http://www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~arcana/S.../index.en.html |

I think Imacer meant to type "ping" noise. However, pink noise is very real.
White noise is similar to the sound you hear when a television is on a channel with no signal--over time every frequency of sound in the range of human hearing is there in equal amounts. Pink noise, on the other hand, is white noise that is filtered so that there is equal energy in every octave. Basically, as the octaves go up, the amount of volume of noise in the octave is reduced by 6 dB. There--that's probably more information than you wanted to know to explain a simple mistyping, but there you are. Do a web search for "pink noise" if you want to know more. Trevor
