G4 MDD Power Supply swap out???

I was hoping someone might know the answer to this riddle...

We have an G4 MDD dual-1GHz. It is about a year and a quarter old, and still has almost 2 years of AppleCare left (we bought the 3 year plan). This thing is NOISY!!!! So noisy that you can hardly hear the phone ring when you're in the same room. I've heard about the 'Power Supply swap out program', but from all the info I can find on Apple's support site, this program ended last year. A friend of mine did the 'swap out program', and his G4 is nice and quiet now. Anyway, I found this how-to on XLR8YourMac, which I have no problem doing:

...but that would void our warranty, and the owner isn't crazy about that idea. Does anyone know a way to get a QUIET replacement power supply without voiding warranty. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I did the Apple swap and it helped but I still had a noisy computer. I added the Verax Kits (almost $300) and that made a big difference. I really like the Verax Kits. More information here:

There is also more DIY information at:

Thanks for that link man. I'll suggest that to the boss and see what he says. I found another article on www.g4noise.com on how to drop 10 decibels for $2.00. Here's the link:

I'm not sure exactly what he's talking about though, since there's no pics. I think he's suggesting using the cardboard to separate the intake area, and then stuff the foam in around the top and bottom to seal it. I have no idea what he's suggesting with the paint stick though.

We can beat that!

We used a piece of scrap cardboard under some noisy disc drives. Absorbed enough sound to stop the table they were on resonanting. Bliss! Always worth checking!
