Apple Remote Desktop

The OS X <successor to Network Assistant>. Works with 8.1 or later clients, including OS X.

Does not have the crossplatform capabilities of Timbuktu or VNC.

Pricing - $299/10 nodes; $499/unlimited (practical - 250) nodes.

There's a pretty hefty educational discount, as well. Unlimited - $299; 10 client - $149.

ANAT it aint!

well i just installed Apple Remote Desktop, and i am not that impressed. its ANAT 4 for OS X, it does support more OS's though wich is nice. BUT, you cannot copy the system folder! in ANAT 4 when you selected to Copy HD, you got to choose if you wanted System Folder, Everything Else. now in ARD, when you choose Copy HD you dont get a choice, and it states the contents of the HD will be copied (exept for system software). what the hell? isnt this ANAT 5? why are we loosing features here? i have not yet found any other differences between ANAT 4 and ARD 1.

i would wonder if these "copy" issues have to do with the underlying licenses of the open software. that is, copy features have been removed because of the vaguaries of the licenses of the BSD layer and Apple's liabilities in making these kinds of copies.

anyone?

good point merv. it sure would explain the name change to an app that is NEARLY identical to ANAT 4. i would say your assumptions are spot on. it is, however, annoying that ARD 1.0 has runs now on OS X, and is missing features from its older brother, ANAT 4. of course it takes a fast network to distribute hundreds of MB of files to client machines, something our network on campus cant even push.

Angry More missing features

ARD can't Rebuild Desktop or Quit All Applications like ANA 4 could. You can Sleep and wake a Mac from ARD but if it goes to sleep by itself ARD can't wake it up!

What I want ot know is why it isn't being sold single-copy?? I would love to install it on my, my boyfriend, adn my roommate-to-be's machines, to be able to network them more closely... file tranfer, system help, etc... but i'm not up for buying 10 licences for 3 machines!
