Unhappy Microsoft SkyDrive Keychain Problem with Mountain Lion

If you allow the appstore to upgrade SkyDrive once you have installed Mountain Lion, you will find that each time it starts it will give you an error saying "There was a problem accessing your keychain" with a "Quit SkyDrive" or "Try again" button selection. Try again wont help you obviously. :P

Examining the system log shows this entry.

com.apple.SecurityServer[15]: suppressing keychain prompt for invalidly signed client /Applications/SkyDrive.app(512)

Going into your "login" keychain and looking at the "SkyDrive Cached Credential" item shows you that the /Applications/SkyDrive.app item is permitted. Even if you try to add the executable directly that is trying to access the keychain "/Applications/SkyDrive.app/Contents/MacOS/SkyDrive" won't help you because the application is not signed. No idea how they managed this if they are distributing it via the AppStore.

Anyhow, there are three paths forwards.

1: Delete the item from your keychain and restart the app. This will allow you to re-enter your Windows Live login details and reselect your SkyDrive folder. Of course, the very next time you open the app you will need to do this all over agin, but this is good for that one time emergency access.

2: THIS IS VERY INSECURE AND NOT RECOMMENDED!!! You could edit the keychain item and select the "Allow all applications to access this item" under the "Access Control" tab. This will resolve the issue, but it is a very VERY bad idea because it will allow malicious applications access to your SkyDrive credentials. Don't do this!!!

3: I imagine Microsoft will be reasonably quick to patch this and release a new update via the AppStore, so you could just wait for this to happen. There is always option 1 until then if you need emergency access.

No idea how Microsoft managed to screw up their application signing, and even less idea how it could have possibly got past the AppStore curators. I am all for secure computing, but those responsible at Apple really need to double check app signing before allowing it into the store.
