Try using an SSD drive as opposed to HDD with a spindle and magnetic head. WAYYYYYYY faster.

Safari seems to have more security holes in it. But that may have changed as of late, I personally find it easier to use firefox, but no one browser is safer than teh other, unless you use iceweasel.
