Welcome to the macosxhints.com Forums

Very important note!

Please submit your posts one time only, and give us time to approve them! You do not need to submit multiple times; it may just take us a little while (typically less than one hour) to get to your posts. This only applies to your first two posts. After that, your posts will go online as soon as you submit them, without human intervention. We have implemented human moderation of new users' first posts to prevent spamming of the hints' forums (and it works very, very well). Thank you for your understanding...

We are a solutions-oriented forum site. That means that although we discuss problems, the ultimate end of those discussions is to find solutions, discover workarounds or accept the problem as insoluble at the present. Continually reiterating the same problems if you are not interested in solutions is not consistent with these forums.

Rants are OK, but a measure of civility and mutual respect is a requirement to post here. We encourage subjective opinions and discussions of individual experiences and perceptions. No unwarranted personal attacks or arguments without a conclusion will be tolerated. We discourage stratifying users into pro- or anti-OS X. If you are posting here, then you already have OS X installed or are going to and wish to discuss the various issues involved with day to day usage of the OS. This is not a forum to argue the viability of OS X or Apple in general, since our purpose is to help people use OS X more efficiently.

We should also say a little bit more about the nature of real-time forums, in case you're new to the medium. Considering the real-time nature of this medium, it is simply impossible for us to review all messages posted and/or confirm the validity of information posted.

Please remember that although we attempt to actively monitor the contents of posted messages to insure that our posting rules are being met, we are not responsible for the content of any messages other than our own. We do not vouch for nor warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for anything which you may do to your system as a result of the content of this forum. Each message expresses the views of the author of that particular message, not necessarily the views of the Administrator or any entity associated with this web site.

Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email, and can do so with one click while viewing the questionable message. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless you hold the copyright, or you have explicit permission in writing.

Although we do not and cannot review every message posted and are not responsible for the content of any of these messages, we reserve the right to delete any message for any reason whatsoever. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s). It is our intent to keep these forums useful to users and prospective users of the OS X operating system.

We reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you. All IP numbers are logged for potential use by ourselves or in the event of a legal proceeding. Data you provide is subject to our Privacy Policy.

Unlike other forum sites, we make no claims on the copyright of the information published on this site (although we do retain a copyright on the design of the site itself). However, as the forums' primary purpose is to help expand the knowledge base about OS X, we do require a 'right to use' license on any information posted to this site. By participating here, you agree that macosxhints.com and related entities may republish all or part of your postings, with or without your explicit prior permission, in the interest of furthering the level of OS X knowledge.

Finally, you should be aware that the term "free speech" has no legal context on a site such as this one. As owners of the site, and as those who are paying the bills to keep it online, we reserve the right to do whatever we feel necessary to insure that the forums meet our goals of providing an inviting, friendly, and knowledge-rich destination for users of OS X.

Despite everything you've just read, we really do want you to have fun, share your knowledge, learn about OS X, but play nice with others while doing so!

If these terms are not acceptable to you, please close this window now. Otherwise, check the box and we'll create your new account.
