What are you paying for fuel?

We live in a global economy... and we are in a global recession.....so what is everyone paying for fuel in their respective corners of the globe?(in £ and US$)

Here in the UK I am paying:

Petrol - 87.9p ($1.27)........... was up to £1.19 only 3 months back
Diesel - 97.9p ($1.34)........... was up to £1.32 only 3 months back

aehurst 12-30-2008 03:16 PM

$1.29 gal... and I'm still angry about the 4 buck stuff.

fracai 12-30-2008 03:49 PM

Where is it $1.29 / gal?

Where I fill up in RI it was $1.56 this morning.
In nearby MA it's typically a few cents lower.

Photek 12-30-2008 03:55 PM

so $1.29 in the US?.... thats crazy to think the UK is cheaper (only slightly) these days...

edalzell 12-30-2008 04:55 PM

I pay $0.76 CDN per L

That equates to about $2.36 USD/gal!

Interestingly, a month ago, gas/petrol/fuel was way over $2/gal. Now it sharply dropped to around $1.40 where I am in New Jersey.

acme.mail.order 12-30-2008 06:46 PM

In Tokyo gas is currently ¥99 / l (€0.78, US$1.10), down 50% from ¥198 last August. As my motorbike gets 35 km/l I didn't really care.

mnewman 12-30-2008 06:51 PM

About 15 baht per liter for 91 octane gasohol. Thai baht is currently about 35 to the dollar.

NovaScotian 12-30-2008 08:23 PM

70¢/liter. At the exchange rate of$1.25 Cdn/$1.00 US, that's equivalent to US$2.12/gallon.

Canadians might like to run this script (suitably modified for their local gas prices) to read and weep.
Code:

-- Get exchange rate (US$/Cdn$)
set R to do shell script "curl http://cgi.scotiabank.com/rates/fxrates.html | grep -A 2 'United States'"
set tid to AppleScript's text item delimiters
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to "<div align=\"center\">"
set tParts to text item 2 of R
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to "</div>"
set Exch to (text item 1 of tParts) as real
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to tid

set USGas to parsePrice(do shell script "curl http://www.newhampshiregasprices.com...uth/index.aspx | grep -A 6 'Local Price Snapshot'")
set NSGas to parsePrice(do shell script "curl http://www.novascotiagasprices.com/ | grep -A 6 'Local Price Snapshot'") / 100

set litersPerGal to 3.7854

set USEq to (litersPerGal * NSGas / Exch)
set CanEq to USGas / Exch / litersPerGal

display dialog "Gas at $" & USGas & "/Gallon in Portsmouth would cost " & return & ((CanEq * 10000) div 1) / 100 & "¢/Liter in Nova Scotia!" & return & return & "------ BUT ------" & return & return & "Gas at $" & ((NSGas * 100) div 1) / 100 & "/Liter in Nova Scotia" & " would cost" & return & "$" & ((USEq * 100) div 1) / 100 & "/Gallon in the Portsmouth, NH" & return & return & "with Exchange at Cdn$" & Exch & " to buy US$1.00"

to parsePrice(R)
set tid to AppleScript's text item delimiters
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to "AccountInfo1_lbltoday\">"
set tParts to text item 2 of R
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to "</span>"
return (text item 1 of tParts) as real
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to tid
end parsePrice

Passing by a gas station tonight, gas prices were $1.49 here in Virginia..

ArcticStones 12-31-2008 03:56 AM

.
Driving to my family for Christmas, I stopped to fill gas (petrol) at NOK 9.99 per litre. That amounts to $ 1.33 per litre.

That boils down to $ 5.04 per US gallon.
And that is the cheapest I have seen it in more than a year, anywhere!

The US price quoted is for US gallons. For the same volume, UK diesel is $5.34. Sort of make you weep, huh?

WAAHHH?...

So its cheaper than water?!... no wonder they invaded Iraq...

fazstp 09-04-2009 12:06 AM

Currently sitting around the AU $1.30/ Litre

I guess that's about US $4.12/ Gallon? ( 1.3 x 0.836 / 0.264 )

ArcticStones 09-04-2009 03:09 AM

.
It is currently NOK 12.29 – 12.80 per litre.
(US $ 2.05 – 2.13 per litre, for 95 octane)

That is equivalent to US $ 7.76 – 8.07 per gallon.

PS. How quick would the Revolution (in car designs) come if this was the price in the USA? :)

Considering how fast it has been changing since the gas scare of 3 years ago (where we only got up to $4/gallon), I'd say pretty darn quick. People are still a bit leery of SUVs, and you see a lot more reasonably sized cars, even out here in conservative Utah.

Oh, we're at around $2.50/gallon here right now.

acme.mail.order 09-04-2009 04:08 AM

Congratulations, Arctic. That's 60% more than Tokyo. And I don't want to think about using my motorbike in Oslo, Trondheim or Fauske (and I grew up in Canada). Does the price rise substantially as you head north? Islands here are ~50% higher than the 'mainland'.

ArcticStones 09-04-2009 04:22 AM

Maybe I should do my share for the environment -- come to Utah and campaign for a trebling of gas prices. :D

No, the geographical differences are minimal. There are regulations in place keeping it that way, otherwise people in remote areas would be paying astronomic prices not only for gas, but apples, lamb chops and potatoes.

What about reindeer?

Excellent food! Especially when served with wild mushrooms, lingonberries and a good sauce containing sour cream and a hint of goat cheese. And potatoes, of course. (I do know some people in other countries see us as barbarians, since "we eat Santa’s helpers".)

I don’t have mileage figures on reindeer.
.

acme.mail.order 09-04-2009 05:05 AM

Ah, but thanks mainly to Disney we have a very distorted view of the animal kingdom. Deer are rather nasty creatures before they've been smoked and salted, whereas wolves have an extended-family social structure and are rather more important for the ecosystem.

Can you purchase reindeer in the market? If I want deer, duck, pheasant and to a limited extent goose in Canada you mainly have to pick up the Remington and go for a walk.

p.s. dogsleds get pretty good mileage but they can't manage the turns at the drive-thru.

Yep, frozen reindeer is available at most supermarkets. And you can buy canned reindeer meatballs just about everywhere.

Back to gasoline… These days most of the reindeer herding is done by snowmobile.

For the sake of others lets be clear he means cuts of meat, not the entire animal

I drive past an IKEA regularly, have to see if they have any joika.

NovaScotian 09-04-2009 09:32 AM

Considering the exchange rate and volume conversion, gas in Halifax is selling for US$3.47/Gal. In Portsmouth, New Hampshire the price is $2.61 so while we pay Cdn$1.03/liter, the Portsmouth price converted to Halifax would be Cdn 61¢/liter.

Wow! You just hit upon the perfect yard or house decoration for Christmas. String a few lights around the antlers and good to go. Maybe a new tradition.... a bowl of reindeer stew for New Year's Day... right after the last bowl game.

If you come not only will I help you, but I'll take you to some of the better local eateries ;).

It might hearten you to know that there are a few people around here who are already doing what you propose. I guess it can be thought of as "tough love", we know there needs to be a change, but we also know people won't change unless they are (practically) forced to.

stewiesno1 09-05-2009 05:04 PM

No reindeer here but we are paying $1.23 /L for diesel and $1.10/L for unleaded.
Thats about US$1.03 /L diesel and US$0.92/L unleaded.

Just curious -- what is the cost of the calories you consume by skateboarding, say, 20 miles? Might be more than a couple of quid, mate! :D

I pay nothing for fuel.I subscribe to a car pool. I book the car per hour or per day, and it's all inclusive.
