iPod Game Recommendations
I have Brain Challenge on my iPod which I enjoyed and was considering getting another game. Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations? I was considering Sims Pool or Texas Hold'em or maybe one of the puzzle games like Cubis 2.

Monkey ball!!!!!!! :p

Nice suggestion. Guess I should have mentioned it's a 5th gen video iPod so not compatible. Doh!
|
I heard about a game that Square Enix released a little while ago that turns all your songs into FF Tactics characters. I'm sketchy on the details because I have a Touch... But you might check it out.
|
Oh yeah, Song Summoner. I was kind of interested in that one but it seemed like the kind of game that would require a lot of time to put into it which I don't have.
Hey how come the US store has Scrabble? We don't have that one. What's the deal with overseas stores anyway? Can I buy from US? By my calculations at the current exchange the games should be about AU$6 not the AU$7.50 we're paying. |
You know I don't know. I've tried to buy things from the Japanese store to no avail. But I was trying to do that on the same day iPhone 2.0 came out, so for all I know it was a system glitch. I have gotten Japanese podcasts before, but they were free.

I went for Cubis 2 and Texas Hold'em.
Cubis 2 (to quote kel) meh. But I am enjoying Texas Hold'em. I've already learnt two important things about poker. It's addictive and I suck  |

Hey just checked the store and they have added Spore Origins! Bit of a surprise offering (for me anyway, not that I've been keeping up with Spore news).
|
I recommend Aurora Feint to anyone with an iPod touch or iPhone.
|
Has anyone else noticed the general crappiness of the online Spore Origins arena? I've only tried it in Safari but the account settings are really flaky, the creature previews are way off and the arena is nothing like the iPod version. They've got a really poor Flash version online.

I was excited to see Lode Runner for the (5th gen) iPod. One of those classic games (classic in the classic sense not in the OS9 sense) I remember fondly from my youth. Bit disappointed in the controls though. It's touch (click-wheel) left and right to move and click left and right to dig. Trouble is you have to touch before you can click so he keeps moving over the square I want to dig. There is a config option to touch to dig but it doesn't seem to work.

I've never played Texas Hold'em with the audio before now and I have to say the sound effects suck. Aside from that it's probably my favourite game to date. Still very challenging. I've never made it through the second table of round two. Best finish so far was second.

Well I've upgraded to an iPod Touch after my wife left the classic in a taxi. So far I'm enjoying Battle Bears: Zombies!, Doodle Jump and Ragdoll Blaster 2.
|
I seem to spend a lot of time playing Tiger Woods Golf, which just makes me feel all dirty inside... ;). I also love Geo Defense Swarm which is probably the best tower defense game on iPhone. Plus, Sim City has been a great deal of fun (though it has me pinning for the desktop version...) I've also been looking at getting a football (soccer) game in the near future.

Man, there's a lot of dross in that App store. How many slider puzzles do they think we need?
|
Hey, that's free market for you :-). The problem (or maybe it's just a hassle for us, not a problem) is that it's too easy to publish. With things like Books, Music and physical software you have to have a publisher first, and publishers aren't going to shell out money for distribution if the game is either a) bad or b) already been done to death. I really hate to say it, but that is one advantage of having a publishing structure (I don't like corporations, but I guess they have some uses.)
The real secret is to find a good website or two that reviews iPhone apps. Digging through Apples labyrinth is just a bit to much methinks. |
I wonder if the slider puzzle is included as a sample in the SDK? They should add a slider puzzle sub menu in the app store just to get them out of the way :).

I also got Ancient Frog which seems to be a nice mellow puzzler. |
So far I find DoodleJump, Dizzypad and FlightControl the most playable. Although Dizzypad I'm only trying to pass the 40 pad limit to unlock the Zen Master frog skin.
A bit frustrated with Aurora Feint II. I find the matching game a bit boring and once you unlock the basic talents the others require quite a bit of matching before you can get any more. I don't know that 'The Beginning' will have much longevity play-wise and I don't know enough about the arena to be bothered with it, even though every transition in 'The Beginning' has some spiel about what some talent will do for you in the arena. |
