Meet the crew

Hello,

I'm wondering if there ever has been an 'introductions' thread. Where everyone gave a brief bio, influences, etc. just to get an idea of who we are.

What do you guys think? yes, no?

Who's asking?

rusto 02-04-2003 09:02 AM

If people are willing to reveal details about themselves, they could add their personal info in their control panel which is accessible via the "Prefs" button at the top of the forum page.

Curious folk could then see it by clicking the "Profile" link at the bottom of that person's post.

vonleigh 02-04-2003 12:40 PM

Vertigo: just me.

Rusto: you have a point, but the nice thing of having a thread is that you can discuss it and have everyone in one page, not clicking on bunches of profiles that seems even troublesome (compared to posting a message) to fill out.

And what to share? doesn't matter, as little or as much as each person wants.

I was referring to the fact that you were asking for a profile from everyone else, yet you haven't offered one of yourself. Remember, the trick to good story telling is elaboration... :)

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die.

Whoops, wrong intro.

Hello. My name is nkuvu. I live in Tucson. I'm a vegetable-arian. Hmm...

And don't criticize me for possibly spelling Inigo Montoya incorrectly, I've never seen it typed out...

vertigo: very right! didn't want to be the only one.

Let's see. I'm originally from Venezuela, but for the time being I live in San Francisco. I have a background in computer engenieering but made the switch to art: drawing and painting.

Native language is spanish, but I learned english very young to the point that I guess it's also a native tongue.

Semi-obscure references: I'm a huge fan of the BOFH and want to be more like him every day. My other influence is Kentaro Oe from the series GB.

I also like bacon.

P.D: I'm working on a website, although time is not on my side <http://www.illusionart.com> I have some paintings there if anyone wishes to give an opinion.

Edit: I'd guess it's Iñigo with the diacritical on the n.

Craig R. Arko 02-04-2003 02:05 PM

The BOFH, huh?

Hi, I'm Craig. I'm originally from Minnesota and, whooops, I'm still here. :)

Used to be a software/systems engineer in the aerospace and medical industries but after seeing enough spin-offs and downsizings of divisions I worked for decided to work for my bride in a computer consulting firm. I get to be chief engineer, and complain about how I can't change the laws of physics.

We've been at this since 1995.

Do want to go back where I found you? Unemployed in Greenland?

sao 02-04-2003 02:42 PM

I was sitting on a rock in a lost asteroide about 5,000 years ago, I still remember it like yesterday, and decided to come to this world to see how things were going on here.

In my first years of life and after remembering that I was indeed inmortal, I started a backward journey to find the lost answers in my memory.

So I continued my journey, and travelled to over 80 countries around the world, till finally found myself sitting in lotus position in a Zen Monastery in Northern Japan at 5 o'clock in the morning, I was 21 years old.

I was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, long ago, and I'm living now since 3 years in Singapore.

And like nkuvu, I'm a vegetarian too....

Hi, I'm David. I'm not originally from Minnesota and for some reason I'm still here.

I’m also a computer consultant. That basically means that people pay me to play with their really cool systems. I seem to mainly have magazines and graphics houses as clients. I’m one of the lucky ones, I get to work with almost all Macs!

:D

vertigo 02-04-2003 06:22 PM

I'm a fun loving Aries who hails originaly from Syracuse NY!...

That's true, but I'm not that perky. Currently living in Pittsburgh but likely moving to Annapolis in the next few months. I am business analyst in the retail clothing industry.

I have a background in art and love to use Macs, although I also own a Dell (for games mostly, although lately I've been futzing around with installing Linux). First computer I owned was a Centris 660AV (remember those?).

I'm a geek at heart and I love that OS X has all this unixy goodness right in the middle. Makes screwing up your computer that much faster and the odyssey of fixing it that much more fun.

I am currently looking for an excuse to buy the new 12" PowerBook - even though I really don't need it. I give myself no longer than a month before I break...

mervTormel 02-04-2003 06:40 PM

i had a Centris 660AV! it did telephony in 1994!

vonleigh 02-04-2003 07:24 PM

My first mac was a 512k enhanced! with _two_ floppy drives. Anyone remember Dark Castle?

My next mac didn't come way later until I got a first generation PowerPC, with the Geoport Telecom Adapter (nifty in some ways, crappy in others), that I used to connect to BBSs.

mervTormel 02-04-2003 07:58 PM

my first mac, too, was a fatMac, 512KB RAM! woohoo!

Me, too!

Did you know that Elvis would eat a pound of it for breakfast, along with a dozen eggs? I read that the other day in my "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader" calendar.

Phil here (duh!!) and living in Wichita, KS with my wife and two of our three kids (oldest daughter married and in WI). I'm originally from Louisiana and am still most fond of the Cajun culture. Best food in the world, folks, and I know how to cook it, too. :D

I'm a writer, lecturer and counselor, mostly in the arena of spirituality and theology. I've picked up computer skills along the way and manage my own web site and oversee several others. I'm also something of the I.T. person at one of the places I consult with--all XPs, however. Oh well. They're mostly well-behaved.

rusto 02-04-2003 11:31 PM

Hehe, I too started off with a Mac 512k followed many years later by a Centris 660AV, best durned phone anwering machine I ever owned. Until it died that is, then I got a 6100/66 followed by my current g3/350. Waiting to see what MWNY will bring this summer...

Studied computer engineering in college, but have been working in the photo industry ever since: ran custom B&W lab, owned 2 camera stores...sold them and opened chain of photolabs...got out of retail in '93 and have been a freelance photographer ever since. Do some freelance Mac consulting here and there along with some Photoshop tutoring. Live 10 minutes outside of Boston with wife and 2 year old daughter, Grace.

sbur 02-05-2003 07:44 AM

Currently live in Atlanta GA. Will be moving to MN in the summer.

I'm a chemist.

My first computer was a TI, and then I moved to an Apple ][ +, then an Apple ][e, then an Apple ][e, then a performa, then a PPC 7200 (still running), and now I have a 300 MHz Tangerine iMac (rev A), an 800 Mhz iBook, an 400 MHz G4 tower, and a mangled iBook 600 MHz that is hooked up to the TV as a dedicated DVD player.

Pork fat rules!

griffeymac 02-05-2003 12:19 PM

Never been to Minnesota. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and now live in a little town in East Central Illinois that has fewer people in the entire town than were in just my high school.

My first computer was a TI-99/4A which was later traded in for an Apple //e. Now I have a quicksilver G4, a Lime iMac, a 7300/180, a 7200/75 (not in use), a custom-built PC with Win XP, and a Dell with Mandrake Linux 9.0.

I am not a vegetarian. My wife's father is a farmer and he also raises a small number of cattle every year just for our (the family in general) consumption. We eat some form of cow probably 5 or 6 days a week. Mmmm....

:)

But you must've known I was not a great fool, you would've counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
