10.5.3 is out.

It's appearing in my Software update. Will post back once I have it installed...hopefully it cures the problems I've been having lately!

Of these 70 issues, they still did not fix their most egregious, that being the back button. Start with List View setting and click your way to an Icon View folder, then click back, and you are still in Icon View--despite what that folders DSSTORE settings are. This is a bug that is continually ignored.

Automator's Contextual support is buried 3 deep, and extremely slow to start up and do its job.

Spotlight defaults to your entire hard drive for a search--not your current folder.

Ridiculous stuff like this makes me wish I was still on Tiger. Apple, why are you not fixing the BUGS that are driving me to distraction!? It would take less time to repair the above than it did to download your update! Ugh...

Sherman Homan 05-28-2008 04:51 PM

Yikes! A mere 420 megs on a G4, and that is not the combo! It is/was running 10.5.2.

More catharsis than rage.

Can anyone confirm that Exchange support is now offered in AddressBook..?

it looks like it is... I have set it up... but it says 'sync every hour' and I am off to bed now :)

Catharsis up to the "wish I was still on Tiger" comment. That's still hyperbole, right?

Installed on PM dual-core G5/2.3 (Combo Update) & MBP Intel core 2 duo/2.6 (Software Update) smooth as silk. Haven't really noticed any changes yet on either machine.

navaho 05-28-2008 08:32 PM

They broke my apache/php again. That's another 30 seconds of my life lost ;)

My 2.33 core 2 duo MBP updated with no apparent glitches or unexpected behaviors.

I have the impression that the Coverflow view in iTunes has gotten a lot smoother. This is in line with the release notes for Delicious Library 2 that also claims faster coverflow on 10.5.3 (it said something about background rendering with multi-core CPU support on 10.5.3).

I think it has always been there...? I'm still running 10.4.11:

Google announced that Address Book syncing to Gmail contacts is supported in 10.5.3.

No changes for me, besides noticing I'm getting beachballed a lot less than usual.

Unfortunately, the consensus is that: half the geeks out there will argue until Armageddon
that this behavior is "100%" correct. Browsing via arrow keys *implies* freezing the view.

I agree with you... the "Always open in * view" setting should override that particular mode.
But... unless Apple adds more checkboxes to Finder's prefs, the bad news is: what you are
experiencing is NOT considered a "bug" [rather: expected behavior]... and therefore, it will
*never* be "fixed". [we can pray for new prefs to be added, but... don't hold your breath
waiting for that doubtful eventuality].

Instead, we need to:
  • use ⌘ up-arrow to open the parent
  • use the Path Bar at the bottom [double-click parent or grandparent, etc.] <--not bad!
  • use the Path widget menu in the Toolbar
  • use the path popup menu in the window titlebar (⌘-click title)
  • keep frequent jump points in the Sidebar
  • use the Go menu--> Recent Folders submenu [yuck]
  • set desired view before browsing back one level [nevermind ;-)]
I can provide links to some very heated (and now locked) debates on this. ;)

You are right. I didn't notice that at first. I don't have an iPhone either. What a shame they didn't make this for everyone, like syncing with Yahoo is.

Have a little faith in the hackers! Where Apple chooses not to tread, one or two intrepid hackers invariably do:

EDIT: that took me less than 30 seconds to download, change the .plist and get it working...

It took a while, but I finally got this working. The comments in this lifehacker article were very helpful.

For a while I could see the option in Address Book and it would accept my google info, but couldn't get it to actually do any syncing. Using iSync solved that problem.
