The problem is, with these bans, or any ban of anything is that someone sees something as wrong or experiences something that makes them think that. Then they decide to crusade against it and change the world, for the better in their view.
For example, and this is just what I understand about the UK.... One of the leading lobbyists for the gun control over the in UK was a mother who's son was shot dead in some crime. She thought if they could ban hand guns that no other parent would ever have to deal with what she had to. So, she crusaded to have handguns banned, and it had pretty much no effect on crime what so ever. Sadly, and ironically in the end she was stabbed to death. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...re/7430668.stm The bitter irony of this is that any kind of ban just creates more crime period and it also in some cases creates more government. So what now, ban knives? If the government is armed, so should the citizens. When help is needed in seconds, the police, fire department, and ambulances are minutes away. It is always good to be prepared for any type of situation. I don't think if everyone was armed in the USA it would reduce crime, but if you look at Switzerland (and I know it is bad to make cross cultural references like this) they have a mandatory military serve time for every citizen. Every citizen is required to keep their service rifle just in case they need to defend against any invading country. So, every citizen in Switzerland has a fully automatic SIG 552 Commando or other variant assault rifle in their home. Their gun and violent crimes are nil compared to America. In retrospect and to argue against myself. Japan has gun control and it works for them. |
