errr... can you add an "I Just Don't Care" button to the poll? :o

Wow, the Giants played a really good game! Eli Manning broke out from under his older brother's shadow this year.

Condolences to New England fans. They had an amazing run and will be back, I'm sure.

johngpt 02-03-2008 11:22 PM

It became rather exciting toward the end, didn't it?

The play of the game had to be Manning's escape from the sack, tossing the ball, with that amazing catch of Tyree, holding the ball with one hand against his helmet as he's dragged backward over the body of the defender.

That was tremendous effort. I'm not a great fan of U.S. football, but I appreciate skill and heart in any endeaver.

I do feel that the commercials which aired, were on whole, rather disappointing. I generally look forward to seeing what the advertisers have created for the game.

I had to laugh at one, toward the end of the game, from Victoria's Secret. The entire room fell silent! Both the men and the women in the room were rendered speechless!

The Pats pissed it away. When they got that TD with about 3 minutes left,
they practically started celebrating (the offense for sure... looks like the
defense just fell asleep or something).

Not to take anything away from Manning & Co. They gave it their all, and
rightly reaped the rewards.

I'll bet the ladies were thinking: If I looked like her, I wouldn't need "Victoria's Secret". Even a burlap bag would do the trick.

Could not have been more wrong. That was one of the most exciting Super Bowls I have seen since Rams vs. Titans! Looks like I had my day made and got my "Facing the Giants" moment!

I am glad the Pats lost. I don't like Brady or Moss (but for different reasons) and the fact that they were caught up in that cheating scandal I think serves them right for not winning.

I was kind of hoping the Packers would win it, that way Favre could have retired right after winning a Super Bowl. After they lost in the play offs I really didn't care who won.

However, I would like to point out that 2 ex chiefs players did well last night, but they never do that well when they play for us!!!!!

schneb 02-04-2008 01:31 PM

I agree. I would have loved to have seen the Packs win it. But who could complain with such a GREAT Championship playoff between the Packs/Giants in overtime? But I also like the fact that Eli is no longer in Peyton's shadow and that they can compare rings during family reunions. :)

But I also appreciate the win for another reason--it was SO cinematic. The Giants started out in the tank. Eli was throwing more interceptions than completions. Then, a soldier from Iraq came in with no legs (from a mine exploding under his Humvee) and gave them a pep talk about nothing being impossible. After his pep talk, the Giants really started to move. Then they squeaked by in becoming a wildcard team. Then they became one of only two wildcard teams to ever get in to the Super Bowl. And THEN, for a wildcard team to actually BEAT a team with a record breaking perfect score of 18-0? And it all started with a pep talk from a US soldier from Iraq! Man, that has GOT to be made in to a movie!!

Well, I'm a life long Pats fan but this time I have to say not that the Pats lost but that the Giants won. They were the better team this day.

For the first time since Belichick has been the leader of this team I flt we were out coached and out prepared. Still, it's the first time I can say that, and I guess you can't win them all. that's why we play them.

Grats to the Giants, they deserve it. Pats fans can look forward with anticipation to trying to go 19-0 next year and sealing the deal.

Am I the only one that is soooo sick and tired of Mercury Morris and Don Shula?

sk8nerd 02-04-2008 08:22 PM

hehe, the patriots season sure went down in flames.

Jay Carr 02-04-2008 11:11 PM

I don't know if down in flames is the right analogy, as it infers some amount of excitement. The thing that struck me about the whole game is how you felt that something was wrong the entire time, but couldn't put your finger on it. Then suddenly, there was a miracle catch, a touchdown, and three minutes later the Pats died quietly. Seems more like a slow death to me...

I really thought the Pats would pull it out until that first bomb they threw in their last drive. What ever happened to getting in field goal range and just tying it up? Why on earth did they go for a 90 yard touch down? Did Belichick's mind melt just before that last drive? And what about the other opportunity they had for a field goal? And what happened to the O-line! And...and...ah, I'm running out a steam.

Look, I'm not normally a Pats fan, in fact, I normally hate them. But the idea of a team going 19-0 was just too cool for me not to root for them. I feel really let down... I'm a Raiders fan really, I was hoping to use the Pats perfection to forget about what's going down in Raider town. ...so much for that, eh? If there's a sports god, I'd like to know what I did to make him so mad.

Personally, I think the MVP needed to go to the Giants Defense. Without them, I don't think the Giants could have won. They only managed to put up 17 points. If the G-men's D hadn't held the Pats league leading O down so well, 17 points and miracle catches wouldn't have been enough.

I agree. For me, this was exactly the same strategy the Pats put on Kurt Warner when up against the Rams in the Super Bowl. Their defense got in there and rattled Warner's cage so that he could not have time to work his magic. Same with Brady. The Giants defense was breaking through that tough pocket of protection that gave the him so much time to do those perfect throws. Now he was under pressure and not quite used to it like Eli had become.

No sour grapes here. The Patriots gave it their best. They broke some records this year, but the Giants broke a few themselves. It was a very exciting game, and THAT is what it is all about.

johngpt 02-06-2008 02:25 PM

If you enjoy watching good defense, then this was a good superbowl. There wasn't the razzle dazzle of a blistering offense, but amazingly good fundamental defense.

I agree with Yellow, in that the real MVP(s) should be the Giants defense. I guess their MVP trophy goes by the name Lombardi.

sk8nerd 02-08-2008 03:53 PM

I think "down in flames" is the perfect analagy, referring to thier season, of course.

meh.

18-1 is still a pretty solid season, ya? :)

johngpt 02-11-2008 10:34 AM

Why is it that the losing team in the Superbowl are dogs, rather than being thought of as the second best team in US football?

schneb 02-11-2008 03:25 PM

18-1 was record breaking. Which made the Giants comeback so Hollywoodesque. I think it still made for an amazing game.

hehe, I'm sure you've heard the phrase - "Second place is the first loser"
