Safari safari safari

Geez, is that all anyone wants to talk about? Safari this and safari that, makes me wish they didn't release it...

Note that I'm just a little grumpy since I don't have Jaguar so I can't run safari. :)

maybe this makes you feel a little bit better:

cheers, pink

Klink 01-09-2003 03:00 PM

Why nkuvu, is that your jealousy showing? ;)
:D

Just when you thought there might be a safe haven...

Craig R. Arko 01-09-2003 03:42 PM

Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade... :D

We'll let RacerX talk you into it. ;)

nkuvu 01-09-2003 04:05 PM

I would upgrade if I had a spare $130 lying around. And I've been hesitant to upgrade merely because my system is stable as is. So why throw a spanner into the works?

Klink! You found me! I suppose I shouldn't have left that trail of breadcrumbs behind me...

And I already knew about the problems with Safari, pink, I'm just getting a little tired of seeing so darn many threads about it.

nkuvu 01-09-2003 04:20 PM

I suppose my reply to Klink should be more along the lines of:
Gah! It's Klink! Run for your lives!

But I guess it's too late now. ;)

Klink 01-09-2003 05:28 PM

My dear friend nkuvu, a wise man once said to me...

I am the very model of a modern major general.

Did I just say that?
:p

Well since I am quoting you, yes, you really did say it.

But my main point is that there are a slew of Safari thread out there, and I think most of them could be merged. It's probable that most of them are repeating information in other threads.

I just wanted to know if I'm the only one getting sick of "Safari is my new best friend" or "Safari ate my neighbor's dog" or even "I was a teenage Safari".

Hmm...

Oh, the irony! :D

*Laughs at AKcrab's irony comment*

:)

You can get it for $90 here:

Jaguar at MegaMacs

Just in case that would help spur you on!

;)

Good luck,
John

TheIceMan 01-10-2003 08:40 AM

jiclark: I would kindly point out that the webpage said it's a Jaguar Upgrade. It is not the full (clean install) version. These were the ones we paid $20 for. I wonder why they're selling it for this much. Towards the end of 2002, there were a few deals on Jaguar, I saw one for $59 (I think).

vickishome 01-10-2003 09:06 AM

nkuvu, how about trying this with this? :)

Ugh!

I've given this some thought, but it seems everyone so far knows which one they're involved in. Several on troubleshooting seem to be about different issues. The general one on Software Reviews is getting a lot of action. And this one seems to be more of a gripe about its dependence on Jaguar.

I'm open to suggestions on merging, but my guess is that within a week, we'll all be over this Safari surge.

Craig R. Arko 01-10-2003 11:04 AM

It's probably not worth the time involved to try to merge them. Or all the new Apple X11 threads. I'm sure Phil's right, this will wind down shortly.

Although if nkuvu is volunteering to make a master Safari thread with links to all the sub-threads, who am I to stop him? :p

Don't tell me. I'm in the middle of a tidal wave :)

Cheers...

nkuvu 01-10-2003 12:10 PM

Vicki, thanks for the links. I hadn't thought of ebay.

And I know this thread is particularly ironic. I start a Safari thread griping about the number of Safari threads. That was intentional humor.

Honestly I haven't read most of the Safari threads here, due to the fact that I don't have Safari (which can be associated with some good natured griping about its dependencies on Jaguar and the fact that I can't afford Jaguar). So I really don't know which ones may be duplicated, but I did see at least a few which were duplicates. No big deal IMO.

One thing that everyone should keep in mind is that I have a tendency to gripe about things, but it's pretty rare that I am actually complaining. If I was to complain about something, it would most likely be something I can't do anything about. "I think more people should recognize Mac OSs as useful and not just a toy OS" kind of thing. And since I realize that such complaining is pretty darn useless, I don't do it much at all. :)

And about the price of Jaguar -- I'm not complaining about the price, nor am I particularly looking for a good deal. I just haven't taken the time to save up money for it, so I have no one to blame but myself. And other than some applications that I can't run, I don't miss it. My 10.1.5 system is perfectly stable as is, which is why I haven't bothered to save up for Jag.

I just wanted to make this all crystal clear -- I have enough trouble IRL with people thinking I complain all the time, even though my tone is (IMHO) clearly indicative of a joke.

And Klink, don't you know that Romaine has no nutritional value whatsoever? You tryin' ta off me? ;)

Klink 01-10-2003 01:45 PM

It's comfort food.
Who wants an overweight tortoise? ;)

fyi - romaine has vitamin C and beta carotene. Just be happy it wasn't iceberg. What, you're complaining? *winks, grins and lol*

vickishome 01-10-2003 01:56 PM

You know, nkuvu, if you were my husband, I'd tell you to get a hobby. ;) Oh, that's right. You already have one! :D

Seriously, you're talking to a woman who, until just a few months ago, was still in the dark ages as far as upgrades go. Forget Jag or even OS X. I was running OS 8.1! So you can stop your bellyachin' already. :p

My advice to keep your sanity and to prevent yourself from taking on a lovely shade of green - stick your head in the sand. Don't look! Don't read! Don't see what's out there! What you don't know can't hurt you. And it can't make you jealous.

Ah... heck... save up your pennies and join in on the fun. Get Jag and then you, too, can Safari around zoom... zoom... zoom...

Now if I could only catch up with you guys and your Unix experience, I might begin to shed this green skin of my own! :p

Phil St. Romain 01-10-2003 03:10 PM

You'll have to help some of us out a little more so we can get it next time. Maybe use an emoticon? Like

You see, there really *are* a lot of redundant Safari threads. And I think Craig gave you a really good suggestion on how to help with that. :D
