keep the fans going
is there any app that when i close my screen on my beautiful new macbook the fans keep going until it cools down or until i quit the app etc
and whould it work with smcfancontrol |
Your computer isn't like a combustion engine. It doesn't need to be cooled quickly after power is removed as long as the temperature is maintained while the power is applied.
|
i want it to cool when i put to to sleep
|
It will be cool in a few seconds. It won't hurt anything or anyone while it gets there.
|
Your MacBook goes to sleep when you close the lid, and the system naturally cools down. The only part that might still be inducing any heat at all, would be the battery if it's still charging at that time. Even that would not be much heat.
Why do you think that continuing to run the fans would be important when the power is essentially 'off'? Even if your MacBook were to shut itself off because of overheating, the fan shuts off completely then, too. |
but i want it to cool down as fast as it can so i can back to FRAGGIN NOOBS
|
What is a FRAGGIN NOOBS?
|
If you haven't done that yet, add more RAM to your MacBook. Lots of memory can help your system, as the processor/bus can do its job without needing to go to the hard drive so much.
This can often result in a (somewhat) cooler running system. And, you get to 'frag more noobs' - eh? You can also try out one of those 'cool-pads' that you can find in most electronics stores. |

No. I'm not a gamer… This also explains why your 'fps' reference was lost on me.
There is absolutely no reason to speed the cooling of your Mac when it's put to sleep. You can immediately shove it in your backpack/case/dresser drawer/secret compartment without any worry about harming it. |
ok thanks
oh and fraggin means: killing noobs etc |
Does anyone actually say "fraggin' noobs" anymore without being sarcastic? I thought that fad passed with Quake 1's popularity.
|
Yes, hardcore gamer still use that term quite often. It's what keeps us hardcore... (though truth be told, we do usually say with a twinkle in our eyes these days, just happens when we get older I guess.)
blueballs, are you overclocking or something? Why are you so worried about system temperature? Anyway, one thing you can do to make the computer cool faster is to turn the computer so that the vents on the back are pointing up. Also, to more clearly explain blueballs problem-- If you run a game on your computer for a prolonged amount of time, then put the computer to sleep by closing it, then open the computer within five minutes, the computers temperature appears to be as high as it was before you put the computer to sleep. Why do I say this? Because when I put the computer to sleep the fans are whirring at 6000, and after I wake it up, even before going into a game, they usually whir all the way back up to 6000 for a couple minutes before the system finally cools down. Point being, I think blueballs is right. I think the computer is not cooling down completely in sleep. But, I will say this. Blueballs--if you're that worried about the temperature then just do this. Turn off the game and all other programs, turn off the screen and then unplug your computer from the wall (which, if you have the proper power settings, will make all of the electronics run at a lower power setting, which reduces temperature). The fans will cool the system down just as about as quickly as if you'd turned the computer off and were letting the fans run. But, one last word of warning, repeatedly heating up and cooling down your system is bad for the electronics. Heating up the computer causes things to expand, and cooling causes them to contract. Over long periods of time this could cause metal fatigue. You're almost better off just playing the game and not worrying about the heat. Trust me, Apple did a lot of work making sure your computer can't overheat itself. So, unless you've been messing with Apples default settings, don't worry about it. |

blueballs, Why don't you just get someone to buy you a giant gaming PC and be done with it. |

Ah, but fr4g1|\| n00b$ is not nearly as fun in Halo 3 as it is in Crysis! Seriously, look at the reviews on that game! Not that a MB could run it...

Keep talkin' smack about Halo 3 and I'll <generic Internet tough guy rage>.

I actually play better with a controller, strangely enough. I'm not sure why, exactly, but I suspect it's because I was playing console games before I got my first computer, and simply have been playing with the controller longer than keyboard+mouse as a result.

See, and I'd agree except there are some great games on XBox360 games that I'd like to play, but the controller scheme bugs me a bit (though it doesn't really stop me). I think it would be nice to use a keyboard with, oh well. Some day the perfect console will come out...with a functional keyboard.

Well, since Apple doesn't have a console, I don't think I'd worry to much :).
