CS2 and Leopard problem
Is it true that Adobe CS2 will not run under Leopard?
|
CS2 is a PPC based application and though you can still run PPC applications on Leopard, I would highly suggest an upgrade to CS3. Especially if you have intel based macs.
I would ask Photek since he has a lot of experience with the adobe products. I don't use them, I just install them over the network. I don't have any CS2 installs on Leopard yet so I am just guessing from past experiences that CS3 would be preferred over CS2 in Leopard. |
"Will not run" is a bit strong.

CS2 does indeed run in Leopard. As to problems with it, I can't say.
I have a professional photographer friend that has PS CS3 installed and is having a very frustrating problem with it. When he manually enters the dimensions for cropping, the resulting rectangle does not match. IE: He will enter 8 and 10 and the result will appear more like 3 and 10. Any ideas? |
I've been having a specific issue with CS2 on Leopard, that I happen to have found a bypass for.
Problem: I use photoshop with my scanner (very convenient), but after installing Leopard the scanned image will not save. Solution: While the image will not save, it does appear on my screen. I simply take a picture of my screen (Apple/Shift/3) and then I have the image in standard PNG format. |
You give no information about what scanner you're using. While grabbing a snapshot of the preview might be sufficient for computer display or web use, it won't give a very high quality copy for printing.
Your problem is probably related to the Scanner's driver. Let us know the scanner and perhaps we can help. |
I just installed Adobe CS2 onto Leopard 10.5.1. I had no problems with the installer, and I've launched and used Photoshop and GoLive. Both programs seem to be opening and saving documents with no problems, and I even used GoLive to sync a website update. Leopard's new temporary font activation features work fine with CS2.
The only problem I noticed is that CS2 apps don't work as they should with Spaces. I set up Photoshop to open in space number 8 on my Mac, but it refuses to stay there, it kind of opens in any space that I'm in. So, I disabled Photoshop's space and just use it in whichever space I happen to be in at the moment. I'm okay with that for now. It's not a show stopper. |
I've been using CS2 Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign plus Quark 6.5 and Dreamweaver 8; Also MS Office suite for Mac on Leopard OS Intel Mac with 2GB ram since I got the new computer in October. The programs don't work as well but they work. If I have multiple programs open, PhotoShop and Illustrator may have a tool or a menu item that doesn't want to work. I attribute this to memory problems and the "rosetta" (in)compatiblity Closing programs and rebooting solves this.
Illustrator has the worst problem of all my graphics programs because it will inevitably crash sooner or later if I have pHotoshop open. I find, although I like some of the new features in Leopard, that Tiger seemed to be a more stable OS. In 2+ years of using Tiger, I seldom had to do a repair, only once in right after the new Tiger OS release, did I have to do a rebuild. I've been using Leopard for 2 months and I've had to run utilities and repair the disk and permissions twice. Hopefully, like Tiger, Apple will reach a point in OS5 upgrades that will cause the system to run just as smoothly. |
May I add that sometimes upgrades in software and OS are not really all that great. I've been using Macs since 1989 and have owned at least one Mac from every generation from SE to IMac and all the OS since both the system and hard drive were on floppies. I been using Quark since version 1 and was a beta tester for the very first Illustrator. Frankly I'd go with stability rather than all the bells and whistles. There's hardly anything I can do with the new programs that I couldn't do with a combination of programs in the mid 90s.
I do appreciate that Apple has improved the OS to a point where system crashes are (almost) non-existent but I don't appreciate having to buy a suite a programs costing hundreds of dollars to go with a new OS. Keeps the economy rolling but puts a damper on my wallet. |
I just got a new mac Pro and am having it all of a sudden say program error. Then have to force Quit and relaunch. Is anyone else having this problem? If so does any one have a solution maybe?

I have Photoshop CS2 installed on my Intel MacBook and have suffered no significant issues other than those caused by a rogue font here or there.

Which release of Leopard / Tiger? |
CS2 & Leopard
Just upgraded my wife to an Intel-based iMac running 10.5.3 from a relatively old PPC Mac running 10.4. On her old machine, she could scan from Photoshop via the Import dialog, but that no longer works. She can scan from Image Capture, but it adds an unnecessary step in a frequently used workflow for her. She has PS 9.0.2 from CS2. What am I missing? Is there a plug-in that may not have migrated correctly?
