How did it fail? What messages did you get?

trevor 10-29-2007 03:24 PM

If you paid money for the new iLife and are having problems with installing it, I suggest that you call the publisher of the software (in this case, Apple) and ask them to help you with installing their product. Or certainly, feel free to ask here for help with getting the new iLife installed.

This seems like a much better idea than giving up on something you just purchased.

rahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

on garage band it says please ensure that the prouduct is installed properly and the same for all the ilife apps in ilife 08.

so then i installed it again and again and again and it still would not let me though. I managed to get garage band to run but when i open it it says that annoying message please ensure that the prouduct is installed properly i click ok 2 times before it loads GB. In GB loads of features on the menu bar are blacked out but the other i life apps don't even let me though.

edalzell 10-30-2007 11:47 AM

Have you tried what trevor suggested?

Las_Vegas 10-30-2007 11:48 AM

Have you repaired permissions on your drive using Disk Utility?

Garagebandboy 10-31-2007 01:51 PM

What?

i have tryed every thing you guys told me and no luck i have tiger 10.4.10 on my external HD and it works fine on that but not on my laptop HD. This is really odd i even found a page on apple's site about ilife issues and found the topic for me i did what the page told me and still no luck. I tryed to install it again and it said this software can not be installed on this computer at this time. It works fine on my external HD strange don't you think guys.

Can you confirm specifically that you asked for technical support from Apple? What did they suggest exactly? If you called Apple, why wasn't the issue resolved?

That message usually indicates that some part of the package has incorrect permissions preventing the installer from removing it, or the part is a process that won't kill. You might try starting in safe mode (Shift key) prior to running the installer. Failing that, use Pacifist 2.5.1 to locate the pieces and remove them manually prior to running the installer.

When you repaired permission, where there any errors?

Garagebandboy 11-01-2007 09:42 AM

i managed to get it to start installing but when it gets to the end it says installion failed please restart and try again. Apple says to return the ilife cd back and swap it and see if its a falty disk and if that does not work they are sending a person around to look at my machine in more detail.

i tryed repairing the disk permissons and it worked but not my ilife 08

Garagebandboy 11-04-2007 10:23 AM

apple sent a person around and getting ilife to work was no luck
i might just have to buy a mac book pro which i had my eye on anyway.

Apple said this is weird they have never seen any thing like this before.

markashley 11-04-2007 01:12 PM

You don't need to buy a new computer. Since it works ok on your external drive it's probably not a hardware problem. So why not try reinstalling the OS on your main drive and then see if iLife works?

edalzell 11-04-2007 06:32 PM

This just doesn't "feel" right. There must be something else going on here. Not that I am doubting Garagebandboy, but does Apple send people?

If I were him I would back up my data, format and re-install.

Garagebandboy 11-09-2007 12:21 PM

apple does send people only in cases where a phone convestaion does not work backed up every thing and renstalling my os will let you guys know if my i life 08 is fully working or not

A piece of friendly advice: try making coherent posts and providing useful information (i.e. speed of the G4 iBook, amount of RAM, free disk space; stuff like that).

The experienced pros who frequent this place will be more likely to spend time helping you if you do that.

Exactly.
On your laptop, how much free HD space do you have? You need a LOT of room on your target drive to install iLife. Later, you can skim this down by moving various assets, but not until a successful install is completed.

Garagebandboy 11-13-2007 04:23 AM

i have 10gb free space so it should work

i book g4
1.5gh
1GB ram
150GB HD

Garagebandboy 11-13-2007 04:30 AM

it works i life installed draged it from my external HD just on the off chance put all the files where i knew they should go and every thing works. thanks for all you help any way guys:D
