What do you use for file/music sharing?
Hello everyone, just trying to get a census of what everyone uses for file/music sharing in OSX.
I have been using LimeWire, but its so flaky... works for 20 min, than can't get a connection for 24 hours... works for 1 hour...and repeat. So is there a better solution? What have you guys had good luck with? Thanks! |

Kind of depends on what you want to look for. Limewire/Acquistion (they're based on the same code) search the Gnutella network. Neo, very solid in its way, searches the Morpheus network, which means it's a terrific place for Britney Spears and other americana. My own choice, Xnap, searches OpenNap, which gives it a good mix of international stuff too. From my point of view, the other advantage of Xnap, a SourceForge project Java client, is that it does not weigh too heavily on the rest of the OS, so I can continue on whatever it is I'm actually supposed to be doing while it searches (very fast) and downloads (like the others when they work).

One thing I never understood about these gnutella sharing apps, why don't they give the same results?
I will give those two a try... I am more interested in a good application finding app. |

Perfect, thats what I was looking for all along!
Thanks! |
I use mldonkey, which runs on the eDonkey network. I love this stuff!!! It works well behind a firewall, and has the biggest selection of movies I have seen and a good selection of OS X software, in fact, better than anything else out there (besides Hotline et. al). Its command line, but the interface can be accessed through a web browser. Totally background, about 5-10% on my G3 500, and it ALWAYS gets something when you start it. Its the best in terms of reliability and stability. For me, knowing that I will get something when I click on it is of the utmost importance; I dont have time to babysit my P2P apps.

How does it work exactly? Whats the web address?

Seriously, mldonkey is great stuff. I don't know why I dont see more discussions on it here.... its killer OS X CLI stuff, which is what gives people on this site boners...........
