Not, gonna lie, I'm a bit disappointed

I just found out, the new wireless keyboard is basically a copy of my macbook keyboard. Where is the full size option? Why would they do this? I want the seperate keys for all the buttons GRRRRRR!!! -DC

trumpet_999 08-08-2007 10:18 PM

I think the new keyboard will grow on you. I can type faster and not have a big plastic clear base that eventually collects flakes of skin and hair (and beer and doritos etc...)

daliscar55 08-09-2007 04:36 AM

it looks sexy as hell and everytime i use my macbook keyboard i want to have a little orgasm so im gettin one for my desktop

schneb 08-09-2007 02:43 PM

Give it some time. There may have been a shortage. Best to come out with something now, than nothing now.

woa a bit too much info there lol

I agree with everyone here, and thus I think Apple should have two options. Give us a wireless fullsize and a wireless laptop size and let us pick which one we want.

Personally, I'd really like the laptop one, but I can see how some of us are going to want the full size one.

I will agree fully.

I managed to type quite well on a store-demo MacBook (I had to screw with something while I waited for my turn at the genius bar), so I may line up to buy one of these down the line.

Get two instead. Imagine yourself with two beautiful keyboards - taking a bath, for example...;)

daliscar55 08-10-2007 09:12 AM

hahahha. it was an expresion of joy at the soft depression of the key as my finger deftly finds the little crevice and softly depresses and the action force pushing back at me when it releases. droooooool

Jay Carr 08-10-2007 02:14 PM

The human ability to make any action an innuendo never ceases to amaze me... :)

Remember the hockey puck mouse? It was great for children and people with dainty hands.

It took Apple 20-years to give us a second button on a mouse...and it was a flop. I don't know any Mighty Mouse users who use the right-click feature. They use it like a one-button mouse with a scroll wheel. The side buttons suck too.

Until they get their stuff together I'll stick with my Logitec periphs.

I agree withe the hockey puck comment, but I disagree with the Mighty Mouse comment. My wife and I routinely use the right clicker feature on the Might Mouse, and it actually works pretty well after you take the time to get used to it.

As for the side buttons...never had a problem getting the feel for them, but I wish they could be assigned to something useful...don't know what yet, but something useful. And that's just the thing, I never liked three button mice either, can't really find a use for them. I'm good with a two button mouse, and I think the Mighty Mouse does a great job.

I think its a prime example of sacrificing functionality for looks, but I will hold my full opinion until I actually use one.

Ditto. I have a mighty mouse at work but not at home (at least for another couple of days!!) and constantly am attempting to right-click on the one at home...not to mention stroking it with my middle finger...trying to scroll, trying to scroll, I promise!

Apple has a history of small, minimalist keyboards. I think it all started with the LC keyboard, which is quite small. Then the first iMac keyboard looked like an LC keyboard that was converted to USB.

Does anybody know if the key action is different on the wireless and wired keyboards? Do they both use laptop style keys?

I think MacAlly recently came out with a full sized keyboard with laptop style keys.

Isn't an innuendo an Italian suppository?

Jay Carr 08-15-2007 03:28 PM

...Sorry, I'm not sure I get the joke :(. I looked the word up just to be sure of it's meaning. I did find out that my usage is not common usage. I've only heard innuendo used to refer to sexual allusions made towards inherently unsexual objects. Apparently an innuendo can be any allusion and doesn't really have to be sexual.

But, that's probably more info than I needed to put in here. I'm just wondering what exactly you meant by your comment .

I concur, I also use logitec and microsoft. You have to admit that MS keyboards and mice are pretty nice.

navaho 08-15-2007 04:10 PM

I'm using a Microsoft mouse. It's the only one I've ever found that really fits my hand just right and doesn't cause me muscle cramps or soreness. I also use a Microsoft keyboard for much the same reason. While their operating systems may not be all that great their hardware is always of good quality and usability.

I don't understand how a company that makes such terrific hardware such as my old powerbook, my new macbook pro, my iphone, an ipod can make such a thing as a mouse or keyboard too small to fit an adult male's hands.

innuendo

in-you(r)-end-o, but imagine it being pronounced by Chico Marx. The play on the Italian pronunciation of 'your' being 'you.'

As in Whattsa matta u?

(my alma mater, by the way)

:)

Jay Carr 08-15-2007 07:00 PM

...you are a sick sick man...but that was pretty funny :).

Anyone have any idea if the keys come off easily on the new keyboards?

I see that the new keyboard continues the recent trend by having a raised ridge on the "F" and "J" keys. At home, I usually swap the "F" / "D" and "J" / "K" keys so that I can get the bumps in the proper positions. Just curious if this can be done on the new keyboard.

I really miss the old Apple adjustable keyboard. Bumps on the "D" and "K", palm rests (removeable) and adjustable angle, it was great for comfort. The only downside I recall was the function keys, but back then, there didn't seem to be as much use for them.

I hated the hockey puck. It was always turning around and I'd go to use it without looking and find the cursor going the wrong way.

I use right-click heaps for contextual menus.

Yeah I turned them off on mine. I kept accidently bringing up Expose when I was trying to do other things.

I like the scroll wheel too but it took me a bit of getting used to. Plus it tends to clog a bit too easily and there's no way to open it up and clean it.

Too true about the side buttons - just shows how ergonomically badly we hold our mice - too much tension and pressure gripping! Should just be relaxed and fluid!

I only occassionally have troubles with the scroll ball sticking in one direction or something. I just do what was recommend in these forums, turn it upside down and roll around and around on the scroll ball! Works every time....plus not eating and computing at the same time! ;)

Last night I tried out the new keyboards at our apple store. The action of the keys was nice, but I find that I'm crowding my wrists too near one another.

I'm thinking, now that I need a new keyboard, that I'll go with CAlvarez' advice from awhile back on another thread, and try the microsoft 4000 keyboard.

Carlos, if you're out there reading, have you tried the microsoft wireless laser desktop for mac keyboard? It doesn't appear to be as ergonomic as the 4000, being part of the 'comfort curve' series.

Twelve Motion 08-24-2007 07:07 AM

I don't know what (most) of you guys are talking about. I just got the new keyboard about a week ago and I love it! I love how silent the keystrokes are. there is still plenty of resistence, and you know you are typing on something. The keyboard is SUPER light, and much smaller than most other keyboards I have ever seen (I take mine with me a lot so it matters.) It's also going to be much harder to get this one messy since there are no gaps. I love it! Took me about one day to get used to it, but now I am and I love it.

Interesting thing about the bumps on the K and D keys as opposed to the J and F keys. I never noticed, because I sort of learned to type on my own, and never got into the home row habit. I only peck with three fingers and couldn't care less where the home row is, but I bet that would be very annoying to someone who got used it it. But I can say for sure that the keys do not come off easily. Although they might come off with a little force, and some kind of tool... But I am afraid to try.

johngpt 08-24-2007 08:04 AM

12Mo, did you go with the usb extended board or the wireless?
