The mac is pretty brain dead about having to reboot for certain updates. I used to play games with uptime on my linux boxes but then I realized that I wasn't being vigilant with patches and updates as I should be. So now I just reboot when it asks me.

Also given the price of gas vs. the price of electricity for heating my home, leaving things on to heat my house is now actually cheaper than heating it with gas. Sure in the summer when the gadgets are fighting the air conditioning, it's an issue, but now that the heat is on, it's really not and issue.

This is a G4 867 running 10.3.9. Of course it's not doing much, just hosting a wiki, a few personal websites and running icq. There's no battery backup, so I guess I've been lucky not to have any power outs. Expecting to move to a new place "soon," and I'll probably shut it down for good by then. It's kinda expensive in electricity to have it running mostly for fun.

well, I got my replacement server set up so i took down my server that had my personal best uptime on it. I was about to shut it down but i noticed it had 90 minutes left before it flipped over the 190 day mark so i let it run for another 90 minutes just so i could say it was up for 190 days.
