any OFFICIAL European iPhone release date yet?
I live in the US but I travel to Europe a lot and have SIM cards from there so I am not willing to buy a locked US iPhone. I currently own a BlackBerry and I am not a fan of it so I have been wondering whether I should keep using my BB and wait for an officially unlocked iPhone or if I should buy an intermediary phone (which, in order to be WiFi equipped and OS X-syncable, nowadays paradoxally and unfortunately means to buy a Windows Mobile device)
Any ideas, dates or advice? |
ok well first the iphone is a world phone for all those who dont know. I just went out of the country to europe as well and i used my iphone.
|
yes you did, but you were charged crazy international rates by ATT on your bill (that you might not have received yet) and I am sure your friends in europe were reluctant to dial you from their european phones
|
ok i see your point. well i heard some1 unlocked their phone via activating with vodafone.

My wild and crazy guess is that Apple's web site will be the place to check for official launch dates. I doubt they will be very shy about announcing it. Anything else is just plain old rumor.

you dont need to get a windows smartphone, theres the nokia n95, or the sony erricson p990, they both run on the latest symbian os's, then again, there really expensive aswell
|
well thsi isnt a windows smatphone phone
|
Actually before my blackberry which I hate I had a P800 and a P900... I loved them! The only reason why I haven't switched to a P990 is because the latest Symbian OS does not sync with OS X (so the same is true for the N95) - OS X synchronization is key to me! And I need the phone to have WiFi

Proposal: International network of iPhone carriers

Before the trip, maybe one could even select online a local number for one’s phone for each country? (i.e. several numbers on same SIM card.) Or even better, being able to keep your number, but let one’s local contacts know that their calls to you would be charged at local, not inflated international rates. The current system is absolutely crazy and antiquated! In other words, force through a cooperation between the various iPhone vendors. Based on the premise: "Serve the customer" instead of "Squeeze the customer for every penny possible". That alone would be worth international headlines! :) |
keep dreamin....

I explained why an iPhone now is not going to work for me... I didn't know the WiFi BB was available yet, that's interesting... is it still SSR or does it have a full JS+Flash supported browser now?

The N95 does sync with OSX. Just go to the Nokia site and download the plugin. EZ.

that's very interesting...
I found this article: http://5thirtyone.com/archives/814 which says you are right, however the Apple iSync devices page doesn't mention the N95. Also I posted on a Symbian message board and somebody that seemed to know what they were talking about said that Symbian OS 9 does not sync with Apple OS X at all. Allegedly this is why the P800 and 900 (on Symbian OS 7) do sync with iSync and the P990 (OS 9) do not. How can the N95 (with OS 9) sync with OS X then? |
Ho yus indeedy.
I had an N95 for a few weeks and just got the iSync plugin from here: http://www.nokia.com/A4299040 Scroll down and click on the N95...etc....etc.. Works like a charm. I hated that N95 and got shot of it as fast as I could. Yuk! Good luck with it. G. |
why did you hate it so much?
can you sell it to me? |
Already sold it. The build quality was crap. The slider felt like it was going to break any time and the navigation keys are so small, that I was ending up in places I hadn't wanted to go to. No USB charging - stupid design. Also quite slow. It did have some upsides but few and far between.
