That would get Apple through 10.7.

10.1 Cheetah - 10.2 Puma - 10.3 Panther - 10.4 Tiger - 10.5 Leopard - 10.6 Lynx??. How do you get to 7? Have I missed one? Was there a Jaguar?

The next one should be Pete Puma... "I got me a little rabbit in this hole."

10.0 Cheetah - 10.1 Puma - 10.2 Jaguar ;)

NovaScotian 10-03-2007 11:49 AM

Thanks, Craig;

Still doesn't get us to 10.7. With your correction, they are:

10.0 Cheetah, 10.1 Puma, 10.2 Jaguar, 10.3 Panther, 10.4 Tiger, 10.5 Leopard, 10.6 Lynx??

roncross@cox.net 10-03-2007 01:00 PM

Don't forget Cougar although some of the other cats mentioned can fit in this category. That's not important because we are only interested in the names of big cats so this one will suffice.

fazstp 10-03-2007 03:31 PM

Do hybrids count?

10.8 Liger

Actually where's Lion in this list?

Edit: Oh right

Ok, with Lion and Cougar, we are up to 10.8. I don't see Liger being used because it not a word most people are familiar with.

Yea, not to many big cats left with common names. They should have named them after dinosaurs. Not a bad idea considering how fast these OS'es go extinct.

Can you imagine, the next release is T Rex?

Pokemon is another good resource for names ;)

kel101 10-03-2007 06:01 PM

haha lol pokemon... good times, if they go for lion, it would be something like leo, are there any other animals that have cool names? dogs maybe? lol mac os 11 Yorkshire Terrier :)?

NovaScotian 10-03-2007 06:03 PM

Two more that come to mind beyond Lion are Caracal (basically an African Lynx) and the Bobcat, but at some point there'll be an OS X 11.0 with a new series of names.

Wouldn't that be OS XI?

Felix_MC 10-03-2007 06:42 PM

Lol, that if Apple knows it's roman numerals. It's still kinda annoying that some people say OS X as "OS X", instead of "OS Ten"
Wonder what names are they going to use for XI. Probably something cool like Roman Gods or what not :D
Though, probably by then, their computers will have holographic displays. :p

I also wonder what the next MS OS is going to be called. Though, following the vista pattern, it wont come out before 2011.

I don't think so, I think Apple will stop selling computers; they are giving themselves the time it takes to run out of names.:p

Felix_MC 10-03-2007 07:51 PM

Lol, and I guess then they are going to become a cereal company! Buy your apple shaped, apple tasting, Apple cereals today before they run out!

I'm one of those annoying users tht says OS "Ex" instead of OS "Ten." While I understand it is officially incorrect, it makes more sense.

X - Roman numeral for ten, which comes after (version) 9

X - As in Unix

X - As is NeXTSTEP

X - As in cross platform, running on PPC and x86 hardware (unofficially since inception)

Zap your computer with Mac OS X Pickachu!
