Serious MAIL application ?
Yeah yeah... "Apple" Mail 2.1... I ...HH AA TT EE... it.
What do you use ? Just wish there was a viable serious Outlook Version for the mac that was fast and worked ! Hellllllllp |
Try MS Entourage...
|
I use entourage and have 10 accounts set up mainly with IMAP and Exchange. It generally is very good, HTML tools are pants but hey there are workarounds.
It is very integrated and the project centre is very useful to me. Thunderbird is also good. I would use this if you dont want to buy and email program. |
honestly, I think Mail.app runs circles around Entourage, though I'm not sure what you're looking for in a 'serious' app. if you don't like Mail, though, I'd second the suggestion about thunderbird. good app - I would actually prefer it, except that it's not scriptable.

...mail
I just want a fast, logical, sciptable, tight, non crashy, folders... multiple pop accounts and therefore identity... mail package... that never loses my friggin mail ... and has awesome search functions... .unlike the crap 'mail' ... which off and on... loses whole mail systems... feels slow most of the time... etc etc ... reminds me of Aperture... and the Adobe brought out Lightroom THANKGOD !
|
yeh... Mail.app gets my vote...
I have 3 x POP, 1 X Exchange, 4 x IMAP accounts, and they all run sweet. Never had a problem or a single moan about Mail. Its a solid, fast easy to use app. You sound like a Windows switcher that cant tear himself away from Outlook! Think Different :D ps... if you have a MacIntel... you can run Outlook under CrossOver! |
Yeah, as others have suggested, do check out Entourage. There are plenty of us who prefer it over Mail/AddressBook/iCal. It's just a matter of preference, but check it out. I love it, and I hear good things about the long-awaited update coming around October in Office 2008.

I've been using Mail for a couple versions now. It's time to clean out my mailbox. I haven't done it for a while, because I forget about it...Mail has been so rock-solid stable and has never lost my mail.

use another program, be happy, and stop trying to convince the rest of us that your anger is rational. ;) |

Mail.app for OS X
Thunderbird for every other OS. |
Well, as a PC user as well as a Mac user, I find it hard to imagine someone WISHING for Outlook. It is a resource hog and one of the main reasons that Windows gets bad marks for spreading viruses. Are you stuck with an Exchange server for your mail? If not, hunt around. Try Thunderbird. Try anything but Outlook. On my PC, I use Pegasus Mail. But I don't have to worry about integrating calendars with other Exchange users and the like. But really---OUTLOOK as a fast mail program?

I suppose you could always install pine. That's pretty serious. :D

Interesting point about mail.app
Well, I am now running Mail and Entourage in tandem and have been for a few weeks. I have my .Mac and my company account in both. Something I have discovered, is that Mail.app is quite simply not getting some mails. This scares the C##p out of me , as I am wondering how many mails I have not received since I switched to Mac 4 and a half years ago... This could well have lost me some biz.
No idea why. In the last 3 weeks, 3 mails have appeared in Entourage, which have just never appeared in Mail???? What gives, I wonder...? |

set comments=s1:/*,mb:*,ex:*/,://,b:#,:%,:XCOMM,n:>,fb:- set nomodeline Haven't edited the above in eternity. Forgot what it does. Something about defining what comments look like. Quoted sections of email look like comments. Mail.app is pretty good but it has several rough edges. |

A few months ago I had some very strict rules set up that were trashing some messages. I felt really upset about it, so now I set all junk messages to go directly to the trash so that I can review them before deleting. |
Naw, I have no rules, except for a colour coding one for a certain email address. No filtering either. Can't afford the chance that a client sends a "funny" email with a business tag line in it - does happen. I have to see all the crap that comes in, malheureusement...
