Safari/Firefox crashing
Hello all!
Both the browers I use keep freezing up when I visit certain sights and I have to force quit them. Both Safari and Firefox freeze at the same sights. Not sure what to do. Here are the reports from the crash logs: Code:
Frameworks/AppKit.framework/Versions/C/AppKitPlease help! |
What websites are these? Perhaps it uses a plugin such as Flash, QuickTime, or Java? Maybe it is a very large page that may hang the program for a while?
|
It's generally normal websites. Myspace is one of the main sites that freezes. ESPN.com as well.
|
Alright. It's getting increasingly bad! Somone please help!
|
Dump the .plist. While this may not necessarily help you, as it could be a network issue (with both browsers crashing), I'd find the .plist files for the apps (Users/Library/Preferences) and delete them. it should be something like com.apple.safari.plist and com.firefox.plist. Additionally I'd restart my modem/router to see if this also clears up the issue.

AE may be crashing my FF too
I've had this problem for months on my G5 iMac, but not my G4 PowerBook. But it only affects FireFox, not Safari. The crash log is the same at the end as the one posted above. I feel stupid that I didn't look at it earlier.
I'll try rebooting my Mac after putting FF on the no-go list. Let's see if this works. On another note - I'm wondering which applications that I use actually rely on AE? There's a list in the pref panel, but I don't seem to need AE to make those run on my G4PB. Hmmmm... |
Yikes. Putting FF on the exclude list had no effect, deleting the plist had no effect. And disabling AE also had no effect. FF crashed in all three cases.
The new crash log has this on the last few lines: Code:
/System/Library/Frameworks/AudioUnit.framework/Versions/A/AudioUnitAny suggestions?! |

I uninstalled AE entirely. FF still crashes.
Crash log is the same as before. (>_<) Grr! |
With APE completely removed from your system, could you generate a brand new crash log (in other words, by running Firefox), and then attach it to this thread as a .txt document?
Also, try disabling all Firefox add-ons and running it again. Does it still crash? Trevor |
Still no luck...

1. All FF add-ons are disabled or uninstalled. 2. APE is completely removed. 3. If I remove FireFox (with AppZapper) and reinstall - FF will work for a while until it encounters certain web sites or pages. Then it crashes repeatedly. 4. I found that the same crashes happens with Camino, after they occur with FF. 5. The FF crash log (even as a text file) is too large for this forum (128K) so I'm posting the Camino crash log. I'll see if I can compress the FF crash log and post later. Thanks for your help in advance. |

Here is the FF crash log as a zip file.

The Camino crash log shows that you have several InputManagers installed in the folder /Users/Curtsan/Library/InputManagers
You should remove all of these (they are components that can affect other software in an analogous way to APE) and see if the problem goes away. If so, try adding them back one at a time. Also check for updated versions from their developers. |

Looking some more at the two crash logs, I see that in both cases, it seems to be crashing in code that is triggered by the "talkback" library that is installed by Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/support/firef....html#talkback
Talkback is supposed to be triggered when a crash occurs, so it would seem that some other crash has occurred and Talkback has trapped this and is trying to report on that crash when it itself crashes. Bottom line: in addition to uninstalling the InputManagers referred to above, disable Talkback (presumably in Firefox preferences). |

Well, I removed all the input managers, logged out, logged in, rebooted, logged in and I still have the same issues. I disabled the talkback in both Firefox and Camino. Now they just crash with no Talkback window. I don't really know what to try now, other than re-installing both apps.
