won't be forced into a Office 2004 upgrade on these terms (will I?)!
Some users are using the Office 2004 test drive as a temporary fix.

You can download Demo here:

Thanks for the help but...

I have installed the 10.1.9 update and then carefully followed the daylight savings fix you reference above. (which basically consisted of replacing the "timezones" file in the microsoft office folder) to no avail.

Now Entourage is showing version 10.1.6 (040913) and I am still on OS 10.4.9.

Entourage - Error Message 1412

So delighted to find this site after three evenings wasted trying to sort out my Entourage with this 1412 error.

I have updated my Mac OX 10.3.9 to bring Entourage up to 10.1.6 (after uninstalling and reinstalling earlier) to no avail. Using normal Hotmail via Safari is a pain as I want my Entourage (which I love) back. No reply from support at all. Prior to everything going wrong I had an evening doing masses of deleting and sending and putting stuff in folders.

Might this have triggered the problem? Also the problem started with blank sections appearing in the Inbox then all unopened messages "cloning" thereby massively increasing the use of my memory. I could only delete one of each of the pairs of messages as the computer didn't seem to recognise there was still one copy there.

That's why I did the uninstall/reinstall having moved anything useful into folders (which still worked). If this HTTP error is caused by doing too many 'sends' in one session why does it not clear after a quiet period? Is there any other HTTP error triggered by too much use? If so, can we copy the fix for that in some way?

Any new ideas yet?

I received this from Hotmail support:

We traced the issue back to a security-related change on the Hotmail servers, which unfortunately affects all Hotmail customers and is too critical to revert.

Entourage X users who do not upgrade to Entourage 2004 can try the following workarounds:
Receiving Mail: Move any messages in the Outbox to Drafts. Message retrieval works in some cases if no messages need to be sent.
Sending Mail: Send messages via a non-Hotmail account.

Sorry I don't have better news.

Per Microsoft News Server <microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage> http://www.entourage.mvps.org/suppor.../subnews.html;

I understand that on April Fools' Day, Microsoft implemented a security-related change to HotMail servers. While not intending to, it inadvertently disabled Office X Entourage for users with HotMail accounts.

Now I learn this mistake is not planned to be corrected, forcing Office X license holders and HotMail Plus subscribers to upgrade to Office 2004 in order to retain their HotMail/Entourage connection.

This is an outrage! It is a perfect example of the callous disregard for Macintosh customers that justly results in Microsoft's poor reputation. My sympathy to all the users who'll never know what happened and will never receive an apology.

This technical mediocrity is why we are still confined to planet Earth.

I'm having these same problems too (so relieved to find this site!). I have Entourage Version 10.1.4 and I tried updating and tried the timezone thing to no avail. I am considering opening a gmail account and getting all my hotmail through that account with the intention of forever leaving hotmail. Will Entourage work with gmail (I assume so)? I don't want to pay for Entourage 2004. Does anyone see a problem with my idea? Could this be a possible solution if msn isn't going to fix their problem? I hate changing email addresses, but if I can do it gradually, I can deal with that.

Please join me in sending a deluge of democratic outrage to Microsoft appealing for redress;

I understand from a MVPS, on April Fools Day a security-related change to HotMail servers accidentally disabled email sending (error 1412) from Mac Office X Entourage;
1) When will service restoration occur? If never, when will an acknowledgement (if intended) or an apology (if accidental) appear on http://support.microsoft.com?
2) As a faithful Office X Entourage license holder and paying HotMail Plus subscriber, what assurance can Microsoft give that other products will not be similarly disabled at end-of-life?
3) Is Microsoft aware that this scenario, if ignored, justly results in its poor reputation among Mac users?

I'm still in the dark since April 1st. Checking my msn plus and hotmail accounts via the web is a joke. I miss having my Entourage working. I was wondering if anyone who has gotten it working would publish their settings.

I got an email about a month ago saying MS was going to change from pop3.msn.com and smtp.email.msn.com to
pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com

the email didn't say anything about the new x509 root certificate security settings. see a copy of the email here:
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/...2419&SiteID=17

Not finding anything out there (until today) where others people are having similar problems, I'm hoping to find out what the setting are for those of you who did get things working again. SSL authentication? with password or without? Override port 995? Or maybe a screen-shot

At first I was downloading my email, but could not send. Since I have started messing with things neither (sending mail or receiving mail) is working. I started with Entourage X then upgraded to Entourage 2004. 2004 has more options for type of connection with the mail server. I'm also running fully updated 10.4.9.

Along the threat of MS support. I've received 5 emails from 5 different people expressing how they understand how important it is to get my email up and working again, but no help. Not even a 'try this'. Basically, like some of the other posts they just suggested I use my web browser until they get back to me.

thanks
