How do I make a voice recording on my mac?

I know at some point I had found a way to record through my internal microphone a simple voice note and save it on my computer.

I've been trying to do it again and can't figure it out.

Is there an application on the mac to do this, or am I imagining that I did it once?

thanks....

Depending how recently you bought your Mac, you will have GarageBand, which is overkill for simple voice notes, but it's there. You can also look at the free Audacity if you don't have GB.

You can get Ben Shanfelder's free Audio Recorder here.

Quicktime does this, just choose "new audio recording" from the "file" menu.

You need the paid QuickTime Pro version to do a recording in QuickTime Player.

$30 to make a audio recording using QT PRO is pricesless, isn't it?

voice candy or omni outliner

voice candy is a neat little app (http://www.potionfactory.com/voicecandy/), but if you're making personal notes for to-do items, writing, or brainstorming i really love using omnioutliner where i can make voice notes right in my outline(http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnioutliner/).

With voice notes using QT PRO, it saves it as a mov file. Can Windows' users play these files automatically?

Thanks everyone. Checking out someof your suggestions.
I must have been dreaming because I remember doing it on my mac without downloading anything and it was a real simple program. Not garageband.

Back in OS 9, there was a program called "SimpleSound" that came with new Macs.

You would think that Apple would make audio recording standard but oh well.

Sound studio? That came on one of my macs.

Maybe it was iMovie.

Yes, you can use iMovie to record vote notes. Save it as a project, navigate to the .mov file or the media directory where the project is saved and your voice recording will be saved in the project. This way, you need nothing new. Why heck, there may even be a way to automate this process using automator.

Quick time

All you have to do it go to quick time, click on file, click on new audio.

Thats it.

What's the OP's OS?

mclbruce 11-09-2010 11:21 PM

Not Snow Leopard, or Leopard, because they didn't exist in March 2007.

Yes, is there an easy way to record from your mac using GarageBand? This program baffles me-- and today-- when I needed to record something in a hurry-- I found a copy of Sound Studio-- which Mac no longer offers with the OS.

I was looking for a how to .. but did not find one.

QiSoftware:

Add a track (blue, Real Instrument), and then press Record, then speak. After that you can stop the recording, then save it.

Thank you very much-- that worked.

Open QuickTime Player, then check out the options in the File menu.
