Toast and itunes wont burn music cd's
When ever i try and burn a cd it crashes, On toast it says theres a medium error and only the first 10 or so songs work , the rest are played as if the cd was scratched.
Have you burned a lot of songs with that drive? They do burn out eventually.
not a lot but it is a second hand mac, but my dvd's burn fine..... :( whats the best way to get it replaced, claim on the warrnety lol or should i buy a new one
If the DVDs burn fine, it's probably a software problem, since they are both (I believe) using the same hardware. Maybe somebody else here has some experience with this particular problem.
Two last stabs at this from me:
Have you tried the standard troubleshooting tips? http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/ (see the "My Mac needs help" section) http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...04011205473937 http://forums.osxfaq.com/viewtopic.php?t=7269 http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/faqs.html Have you tried using CDs from a different manufacturer? |

lol give me 10 mins i'll try a different disk
then again i might just use the warrenty to get a new superdrive installed :d
the brand isnt that cheap http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...608&GroupID=53 there the ones that i currently use
ok it worked on itunes with a tdk cdr disk but it used to work perfectly with the other brand. So should i still go on the warrenty?
I don't think Apple will just replace anything without a good reason... or will they?
Each disk could be different. Maybe the ones you used are defective? I don't know of a brand named "Infinity", but then again, I don't live in the UK... |
hmm dunno because i have 20 days left on the warrenty and i dont want it breaking a couple of days after
Buy another box of the brand that failed and see if it was just a bad batch.
lol ok thanks for the help, but err how long before the drives do burn out and how do i get it replaced after the warrenty runs out?
ah i tried those faultey cd's again in toast it says " sense key = HARDWARE ERROR
sense code = 0x03, 0x01" any idea what this means? |
It should last a long time, most likely longer than you'll be using the computer. It depends of course, on how much you use it for burning. If you're burning disks all day, every day, then it won't last nearly as long as if you were only burning the occasional disk.

well i burn around 2-7 dvd's every 2 weeks i dont normally burn cd's apart from the odd music disk, but it doesnt really matter because its not even a year old yet, the old owner couldnt of used it that much? could he lol

Burning CD's and DVD's can be hit or miss. even a brand of media that's reliable one day can turn sour the next.
Sometimes you just get a bad batch of discs... sometimes the discs are good, but there's simply an incompatibility with your burner. Burners can be finicky about media. I burn at least 20-30 DVD's and twice that number of CD's every month. The only media that I've never had a problem with is Taiyo Yuden (premium... I never buy their "value line"). You've confirmed that another brand works? Call or visit your vendor, tell them you got a bad batch of discs and ask for a refund (or partial refund) on the remaining discs or an exchange. |
its ok they only cost me £7 ($14) a new brand will cost around £10 for 100 disks
Get them soon then, so you can test them before your warranty expires! You don't want to find out afterwards that it really is a faulty drive.
