I'm having the same issue. If I find out anything, I will post it!

I've seen a few users with that trouble on Intel Macs until they run the latest MS updaters.

Alternatively, if the Identities folder in...
~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/

...is locked, it can cause that problem. Get info on the folder and make sure that it is not locked and that your user account is the owner.

I'm also seeing this issue on PPC OS X 10.4 clients. I'm wondering if installing the updates will correct the problem, even if the clients are authenticating through OS X server? Any thoughts?

Framework error

If you receive a framework error, re-apply recent updates. A framework error normally means one or more components of Office have not been updated correctly and are now out of synch with other bits.

You can find many text error messages for Entourage here: <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/text.html> Numbered error messages here:
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/page.html>

Any more info on this?

I'm on a friend's MacBook Pro and he is getting this message still, so i've done the following so far:

- Removed Office 2004 from the system using 'AppZapper'
- Removed any trace of the test drive versions.
- re-installed office 2004 from the disc, but the problem remains.

First dialog box is 'A Microsoft framework error occured' which doesn't stop me using the document, but then if I try to save i get "Unexpedted Quit - Microsoft Word has quit unexpectedly" and so on... Ive also verified all permissions and repaired them, but it didn't change the situation.

bump...any ideas?

trumpet_999 02-18-2007 06:58 PM

i just re-clean installed office again but the same problems exist, i'm at wits end here. Funny how the only apps that seem to go wrong for me are Microsoft ones.

The Fix

I just fixed this "framework" problem by upgrading to 11.3.3

HTH

Solved

removed "Microsoft User Data" from the my documents folder and the problem went away. This is following re-installation of Office which didn't solve the issue.

Use "Remove Office" to remove. "Remove Office" is an application found in the Microsoft Office Additional Tools folder. "Remove Office" removes both preference files and custom templates, so you should make a backup copy of the preferences and templates in another location on the machine before running the removal tool. You'll also need your CD key when you re-install.

Using "Remove Office" does not delete your Microsoft User Data folder that contains your email messages.

Removing the Test Drive has been problematic for many users. See this page for help removing Test Drive: http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/demo.html

I followed the suggestion of the Post #10, and moved the "Microsoft User Data" folder to Trash. It worked. Thanks.

I am having this problem too! Now that I updated to 10.4.9, my MS Word will not save anything. I already tried deleting my Office Preferences folder from the library - no luck. I just read this thread and tried to move my Microsoft User Data folder out of documents folder, but no dice. I can't run an Office update because as soon as I try I get an error message. The error appears to have something to do with the HIToolbox.plist and the framework (I have no idea what that means, I'm only good for simple fixes but not the coding stuff).

dianeross 04-03-2007 07:14 PM

You might need to download the combo updater from Apple and run it again rather than using Software Update. Doing so overwrites potentially problem-causing files. Several users have reported this fixed some odd problems they were having with Entourage.

http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/combo.html

Just to reiterate:

Option 1) If you receive a framework error, re-apply recent updates. A framework error normally means one or more components of Office have not been updated correctly and are now out of synch with other bits.

Option 2) The "Framework error" is basically a (generic) message indicating the application can't connect to the Database or to the expected information inside the Database. The reasons may differ and so may the methods to solve it.

Some users have resorted to deleting the MUD folder, but before you do that try some other methods (repairing permissions, rebuilding the Database,...) before you take a drastic action like deleting the MUD folder.

You can test Entourage in a new Identity to eliminate database problems. You can test in a new User (create a new User in System Preferences) to eliminate problems in your User's folder.

I fixed the problem of "error loading framework" by upgrading to 10.3.5

mrblueslee 10-18-2007 09:11 AM

just rename the folder

I had the same error as well and tried uninstalls and reinstalls all day!

But now it is FIXED!

I simply took the advice in this thread but instead of deleting the "Microsoft User Data" folder, I simply renamed it and then re-opened MS Word. MS Word automatically created a new folder and the error msg is gone. Woohoo!

Whatever settings and files I needed, I just copied from the renamed folder!

Hope this helps!

Thanks, that was such a simple fix. I've been putting up with that stupid error message for ages.

Update Word works

Hi all, this may a bit late for this thread but wanted to say that I had same issue with Word 2004 11.2. Before trying to trash the User Data as done by post#10, I updated Word to v 11.5.4. The error message is gone! So you might want to try this - make sure your Word has the latest updates. cheers.

SassenH 06-22-2009 06:23 PM

This works!

I have spent an entire day reviewing this problem--Word kept crashing and took everything with it. I already tried school tech support, tech company, and numerous web sites for two weeks. I feel like an expert almost. This is the first logical answer I found--it is simple and it works. The "new" Main Identity doesn't reveal itself until you have removed the other identities by taking them out of the Documents folder. Plus the people on this site seem to be civilized and polite to each other. Thanks!

Thank you Mr.Blueslee !

Delete the folder!

I deleted the folder and it works!!!

experta 10-26-2010 01:28 PM

Thank you SpuriousGrowth!!! This was the only thing that worked!

Malbone 01-16-2011 02:32 PM

Renaming the folder worked for me, too -- the problem had come up after cloning my files to a new hard drive using Carbon Copy Cloner.
