Are you using your ISP's SMTP server?
Many ISPs block use of other SMTP servers than their own and maybe your ISP just started doing this yesterday.

CAlvarez 08-21-2006 12:50 AM

There will be a reason shown in the connection doctor in Mail, and in the error log in Entourage. In Entourage click on that little yellow exclamation triangle in the bottom right to open it. In Mail, click on Window/Connection Doctor.

Bigc 08-21-2006 09:10 AM

Have you tried setting mail to send thru port 587 instead of 25?

MAIL error message-->
'There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "POP Account" or try again.

The server error encountered was: The server "mail.zenster.net" refused to allow a connection on port 110.'

I CALLED GODADDY , THEY SAID 110 WAS CORRECT. THEY DONT KNOW WHY ITS NOT WORKING.

ENTEROUGE error message--> THERE IS NO YELLOW TRIANGLE . It READ-

'Entourage cannot connect to the server. Verify that your computer is connected to the network.'

THIS IS TTAL BS.

WTF????

You are contradicting yourself here. It is very important to slow down, take a deep breath, and answer questions slowly and carefully. Recheck answers for accuracy and clarity.

Are you having problems with sending or with receiving?

What exactly (be precise, recheck answers) are all the settings you are using in Mail and in Entourage for your mail servers, authentication, port, etc.?

From this message, it appears that you are running your own mail server. Port 110 is the POP3 port, from which you would receive mail.

Please confirm that you are running your own mail server, and exactly how you have your mail server set? What are you using for POP3? What are the mail server's POP3 settings? How is your mail server firewalled? Have you checked your mail server for intrusions?

Trevor

zenster 08-21-2006 11:33 AM

my bad, I apologize for the confusion.

I cannot RECEIVE MAIL.

I can SEND mail from both programs but not RECEIVE

hayne 08-21-2006 11:43 AM

And what about Trevor's questions about 'mail.zenster.net' ?

JDV 08-21-2006 11:59 AM

that address resolves and pings

So it would seem reasonable to assume that you have a mail server set up locally. In which case, you really need to check your POP server/client settings in whatever mailer you are using to make sure it is configured properly.

I dont see the question

but yes that is how my incomming is set up.

I JUST went to mac tech store and set up an email account on his Mac MAIL

AND IT WORKED. But they had no idea why mine is not working.

They suggested to make a disk image copy of my HD on another external HD and see if
Mail works from that HD.

If it does, my OS needs to be ereased an reinstalled i suppose.

BTW thank you all for being so cool!
Very kind!

CAlvarez 08-21-2006 12:59 PM

WHERE is that domain hosted?

What is between you and that domain? Routers? Firewalls? What type of internet connection do you have?

zenster 08-21-2006 01:12 PM

hosted at godaddy

I do have a wireless router
and the firewall is on but i allow ichat itunes iphoto network time

i have a high speed connection with comcast

JDV 08-21-2006 01:53 PM

Check to see that Port 25 is open in your firewall

Port 25 is what POP uses to check mail. As this was not listed in the group of apps, you should check the firewall and be sure that it allows access to port 25.

That seems like bad advice since it would seem that this is just a Mail.app configuration issue or a network configuration issue.

Where are you getting this (incorrect) information from? Please check your sources.

JDV 08-21-2006 04:18 PM

From the grey matter of my brain

Which seems to have turned to mush. Port 110 is what it should be. Thanks for the correction and sorry for the error.

Change your Mail.app account configuration (via Mail.app preferences) to use your ISP's POP server or whatever POP server works.
Complain to the hosting company that you are paying for your mail.zenster.net domain and try to get them to fix their POP server.

voldenuit 08-21-2006 06:03 PM

The people who run pop.secureserver.net use tcpwrappers (and a very weird setup with lots of open ports), port 110 is open.
Like hayne said, if you're sure nothing changed on your end, bug them until things start working again.

Did you try the solution in the post you had quoted for this reply?

I had the same exact problem as you and overriding to Port 587 did the trick for me. Perhaps the detailed explanation here might help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2500180

Good luck!
