Felt Like a Duck
A friend of mine went through a psychosis a few years ago where she said she felt like a duck and had to act like a duck in order to feel normal. Another friend felt like a penguin. Just out of curiosity I googled "felt like a duck" and got only 234 hits despite 1,100,000 hits for "like a duck". Unfortunately no hits for psychosis "felt like a duck".
I haven't really got a point. Just avoiding work :) |

Next time you feel the need to idly type something, maybe just launch the Terminal application and run the command: cat > /dev/null Then type away to your heart's content. Press Control-D to stop. |
Ornithology, mental illness, statistics... all good subjects.
Only joking. Point taken. |
I was interested :)

If you're bored, look up the hint on how to run Adventure in the shell. That'll keep you busy for a few hours.

When I'm bored, I go for a walk and count to 1000.
Try using your time in a more productive way even if others find it useless and uninterested. You can learn alot by counting to 1000 like learning that humans are very unreliable and are prone to make mistakes most of the time. Humans aren't good at repetitive tasks and that's why computers are a blessing in todays society. Counting to 1000 takes a long time unless you count by 100's or count binary. There are many ways to counts. Human beings have short attention spans and lose focus after a while. I learned all of this by just counting to 1000 and it helps me relate to people better.
It is a miracle that we humans can create things that are much more reliable than ourselves. thx RLC |
I wonder, does anyone here have ADD or OCD?
I know that I have ADD, but I'm not so sure that I have OCD. I think I do, at least sometimes. Anyway, I do not think that I could ever count to 1,000. I would either get distracted and do something else or get to a number like 359 or some other such random number and lose count. When I get bored, I read, or play the piano, or something to that effect. |

DANG! I want me a ninja duck!
And for the record, a good portion of the population has ADHD (or ADD or "dang your weird") to some extent or another. I hate to say "have it" because all it really is is a differet way for the mind to work, it doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. I'm ADD as well, but it's fairly mild. The only bad thing about having that mind set is that it makes it hard to live in a structured enviroment. So I just try and ____________________stay away ------------from structure as much as I ................................. can! :). |
Ah, eventually a thread about ducks! I am going to find myself at last.

Mitch Hedburg thought that god played a cruel joke on ducks. They love bread but can't walk into a store to buy a loaf.
Good thing Steve Jobs didn't choose ducks instead of cats...we'll all be anticipating the release of Mallard |
LOL. This one is rapidly becoming a jokes thread, part II.

fazstp: I highly recommend the book "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat" by Oliver Sacks here
It details his work with highly unusual mental and neurological disorders that make wanting to act like a duck positively normal! http://design.origami.free.fr/halle/...20Mvc-926f.jpg Origami Daffy Duck |

Devil Duckies – and Pope Innocent III Action Figure
.
Check out Accoutrements Devil Duckies as well as their remarkable series of action figures. Let’s face it – where else can you get Sigmund Freud, Marie Antoinette and Pope Innocent II Action Figures? What, you prefer Shakespeare, Benny Franklin, Chuck Dickens, Ed Poe and Al Einstein? Yep, they got those too! :D |
That's not a duck... this is a duck!

Did you notice the people in the bottom right of the first pic? Gives an idea of the actual size. I'd say "freaking huge" is a pretty fair assessment. |

Someone used the term "If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, guess what, it's a duck". And I thought of this thread, where many of our ducks don't quack or really look much like ducks either. Guess the guy was wrong. More ducks:

I was tempted to find a picture of ducks copulating, but I figured.. duck that.
