call me lighthearted and carefree, but...

just want to wish all you chaps a fantastic weekend!

i've been having a great day, sank several wines, enjoyed some posting here earlier.
spending the weekend with various friends, being creative, and currently listening to some pleasant stina nordenstam.

i appreciatte this is probobly one of the most "off topic" of off topic threads.
but...
just a nod to you all and hope you are all enjoying the start of summer.

what are you all doing this weekend?

CAlvarez 05-19-2006 01:24 PM

Unfortunately I'll be revamping a networking all weekend. On the bright side, it does mean extra income to blow later.

missbeehive1963 05-19-2006 01:29 PM

indeed, i have my sights set on this summer as being a long one.

you are in arizona though eh? this fine edinburgh weather must seem paltry to you. i am seriously getting my kicks!

yellow 05-19-2006 01:56 PM

[EDIT: Changed title]

Have a good one.

missbeehive1963 05-19-2006 02:12 PM

Unfortunately, the majority of equal-to-and-sub-20-somethings might not get that.

solipsism 05-19-2006 02:20 PM

"what are you all doing this weekend?"
As little as possible.

"[EDIT: Changed title]"
My RSS still displayed the original title.

"This fine edinburgh weather must seem paltry to you."
What is the Edinburgh weather like this time of year?

marchutch 05-19-2006 02:24 PM

If I am on the money, then the phrasing of the original title was certainly quite anachronistic.

Hope you have a good summer too Miss Beehive. I am stuck in Sunny Cardiff with tons (Imperial measures....) of revision to do! Summer doesn't start for me for another 13 days.

Then off sailing to France with my old man, followed by a few treks in Spain.

But for now it's books, books, books.

Have a good'un peeps

missbeehive1963 05-19-2006 02:31 PM

oops you are right! they might have been harmed there.
wont happen again. sorry.

missbeehive1963 05-19-2006 02:38 PM

the weather in edinburgh this time of year can be a bitch (female dog)
two years ago, may was stellar then the summer was horrible grey and rainy.
last year we had no sun until july.
this month has been fantastic, and it really changes the atmosphere.
the sun has a remarkable effect on the british, a general feeling of happiness and wellbeing just pours out of everyone, and its always nice to see that change. people can be a bit severe here at times.
much as i love the bitter winter here, not everyone does, and the sudden change alwayes promotes a sense of optimism, and chance.
wont be long till the edinburgh festival. i think it must be my favourite location and time of year anywhere. the whole world seems to be here, bars open all night, culture everywhere. complete friendliness everywhere.
a warm welcome to all those that might be travelling to edinburgh for the fest. the city loves you.

yellow 05-19-2006 02:40 PM

Can we just drop it and be happy with an alternative word?
I don't need any more poking.

Thanks.

marchutch 05-19-2006 02:45 PM

I hesitate to tell a moderator to chill, but dude, seriously.

missbeehive1963 05-19-2006 02:47 PM

Seriously...

In today's society "gay" has a different connotation than missbeehive1963 intended. Be it right, or be it wrong, I prefer to avoid all potential impropriety and have the word changed to something "more appropriate".

For this, I do no need complaints.

Please do not tell me to chill.

Thanks.

missbeehive1963 05-19-2006 02:57 PM

and accomplished with far better phrasing than i could have...would i could i'd employ you as my editor... on with the weekend...

I'm just goofing, Yellow. :-)

Ha-ha!

Same thing you call a bundle of kindling sticks! ;)

solipsism 05-19-2006 03:16 PM

Well, that's enough joking for me. I'm just going to finish eating my tossed salad and tube steak and then I'm off to my night job at the fudge packing factory.

missbeehive1963 05-19-2006 03:20 PM

oh dear!
giggling so much now in this edinburgh sun, i'm very warm, i may need to lift my shirt.

funniest thing I have seen on this forum! :D spilt my beer down my shirt laughing!

My weekend consists of living the bachelors life..... the GF is away for 3 weeks...so its just me and my good friend Mr Daniels (jack) I am gonna watch 'Sean of the Dead' again tonight... and I am gonna try to start smoking.

I might go out shopping tomorrow and blow my wad on a new shirt!

CAlvarez 05-19-2006 04:42 PM

Hey, here's a movie idea for those of you staying around at home. Go rent yourselves "The Cube" and/or The Hitchhiker's Guide (even if you've read the book). Those are on my list for this weekend to watch again.

The Cube is a very interesting indie film with a great plot. Shot on a budget just over $27,000, inside a cube. There is only a single special effect in the whole movie, at the start, donated by a startup effects company, and it is spectacular. Otherwise the movie purely depends on good plot and acting.

Photek 05-19-2006 04:46 PM

The Cube is awesome! shame about The Cube2 though... real disappointment.

you seen 'Sean of the Dead'?... its gotta be my fav film.... that and Fear & Loathing..

solipsism 05-19-2006 04:51 PM

The Cube is excellent, though I can't agree with the Hitchhickers. The book, the movie, everything is absolute horrible IMO (most of my friends wish to lynch me for such thoughts).

This week on the Daily Show, Dennis Leary recommedned House and Black Adder Goes Forth. Both are excellent. It's fun to see Hugh Laurie playing a sarcastic American, though I can't help think of him as the stupid Prince George.

ArcticStones 05-19-2006 05:40 PM

Tom, Godfrey, Pega & Louis

.
I saw MI3 this evening.

May I recommend a film? Well, actually two... Powaqqatsi and Koyaanisqatsi. Nobody says a word. Great films! I think Edinburgh would love them too. Well, p’rhaps not the straightest of the lot.

This weekend? I’m going to empty my mind and come to my senses -- quiet time in the garden after the rain showers, or walking in town with my gf while she takes photographs for a book project, or filling our new book cases with wonderful books that have been packed away in boxes far too long. Hopefully I’ll also be struck by inspiration and finish texts for two urgent jobs in a record time.

Wasn’t it Louis Armstrong who said: "I don’t need inspirations. Just give me a deadline." Well, I’ve got the deadlines...
.

I understand Hugh is BIG in the US at the mo with a new TV show... funny he has done so much stuff in the UK that never really got credit..... his partner in crime, Stephen Fry is one clever and very funny guy.... not sure if you get QI in the US... but its very funny.

If you want to see something REALLY funny.... see if you can get hold of Lee Evans version of Bohemian Rhapsody.... has me in pieces every time!

True. And they spent a few orders of magnitude more money on it.

Well, my work has been cancelled, so I may just go do a little sun lounging at the lake.

A friend loaned me Bob Dylan's autobiography. It's interesting. He shifts around in time a lot through the book but my friend warned me about that.
