starting final cut pro 5.1 universal binary

i downloaded final cut pro 5.1 with pacifist, i hace worked properly, but ater i recovered mac os i installed again and it is loading at the begenning and then the fcp icon is disapeared from the dock.. what do you think??

Raven 05-05-2006 09:24 AM

Does the same thing happen in another user account ?

Which version of OS X are you using ?

Your stating that your re-installed FCP with Pacifist. Did you try to re-install it again after you re-installed OS X (this is one of the apps that does need to be installed and you re-installation of OS X probably removed some files or addition to files FCP needs to work.

Also, check the Console (in /Applications/Utilities), click on the Logs icon at the top left and look for crashreporter logs for FCP. Post them back here if you wish as attached .txt files so every one can take a look at them (thouygh my bet is still with re-installing FCP).

fetokakios 05-06-2006 09:31 AM

prokit

this is the message after the final cut pro 5.1 crashes

Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit
Referenced from: /Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Final Cut Pro
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit: mach-o, but wrong architecture

hayne 05-06-2006 09:54 AM

As Raven has said, I think you will need to reinstall FCP from the DVD. You said you had used Pacifist to extract it. I'm unsure why you did that instead of just doing a regular install (like the first time you installed it).

fetokakios 05-06-2006 10:01 AM

any way i install it it shows the same message in the console....

is there a way to fix the prokit?

hayne 05-06-2006 11:43 AM

It isn't clear what your situation is.
Something seems to be screwed up.
I think it would be best if you just did an "archive and install" from the Install CD being sure to select the option to preserve users. This will keep all your user files and just replace the OS X system files and applications.
It would be best if you did a backup of your user files first - just in case something goes wrong.

After that reinstall of OS X, then proceed to apply Software Updates and then reinstall FCP.
Don't use Pacifist for any of this.

fetokakios 05-06-2006 11:49 AM

that's exactly what i did...and the problem was caused by this...the fcp worked regulalarly until i formated for another reason..
installation is done correctly, the problem seems to be the prokit according to the Final cut pro crash log....

You aren't using enough words to make it clear what you have done.
You say that you "formatted" the disk. Did you use HFS+ format? (You can see the disk format by doing File/Get Info on the disk icon in Finder.

And after you formatted the disk, I presume you reinstalled OS X and then installed FCP from its DVD by running the normal installers - is that right?

And please remind us what model of Mac you have.

CAlvarez 05-06-2006 01:55 PM

FCP includes free support for installation issues. I'd recommend calling Apple about it if you think you've installed it properly on a properly formatted partition.

fetokakios 05-06-2006 04:59 PM

i formated the disk (mac os extended(journalded)) and then reinstalled mac os and the fcp from the cd. i have an intel based imac

If (as it sounds like) you have done a standard installation (with no extra 3rd-party software that might be interfering) and you are having problems, you should call Apple as CAlvarez has suggested.

But if you have done anything non-standard (e.g. above you were talking about having used Pacifist to install something) or installed any 3rd-party software that has system-wide effect, then you should start over by erasing the drive and installing a factory-standard system. Don't install anything else before testing FCP.

fetokakios 05-06-2006 05:35 PM

ok but the message i take from the console is the following:

Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit
Referenced from: /Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Final Cut Pro
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit: mach-o, but wrong architecture

maybe if i fix this "wrong architecture" it will work...what do you think? can we fix it?

frankko 05-06-2006 05:42 PM

You never said why you installed via Pacifist.

fetokakios 05-06-2006 05:45 PM

as an alternative solution to the normal one which didn't work...do you know anything about prokit?

I know that it is a system framework that is supposed to be installed on your machine. The message that you are getting would seem to indicate that your system is screwed up somehow.

fetokakios 05-06-2006 06:22 PM

so you think that formating the disk with the cd and reinstalling macos x would work for final cut? or is there a different format method i should use?

I see no reason why it wouldn't work.
I haven't heard a lot of complaints about FCP not working, so it must be something peculiar to your system.
As I said above, you want to do things in as standard a way as possible.

sfdexter 05-11-2006 06:24 PM

i encountered the same problem...

Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit
Referenced from: /Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Final Cut Pro
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit: mach-o, but wrong architecture

i did install from CD (Final Cut Pro 5.1 Universal) ...i was having a problem with LiveType and the Apple phone tech told me to install an ProKit updater and since then -- Final Cut won't work and non of the other pro apps either!

any ideas of what to do? it does seem like it is the wrong ProKit on my machine. Even when i search the CD for the ProKit.pkg and install that package directly from the CD -- i get the same error message in the log.

hayne 05-11-2006 06:52 PM

What type of machine do you have? Is it an Intel-based Mac?

Please launch the "Terminal" application (under /Applications/Utilities) and copy & paste the following commands, press Return, then copy & paste the results back here so we can see:

file /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit
lipo -info /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit
echo "done"

sfdexter 05-12-2006 03:47 AM

Code:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks root# file /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit: Mach-O dynamically linked shared library ppc
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks root# lipo -info /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit
Non-fat file: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit is architecture: ppc
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks root# echo "done"
done

yes, i have an intel Mac (MacBook Pro).
weird that it says ppc architecture...it is from the CD.

what do you advise next?

-thanks

So the above results confirm that the ProKit libraries are PPC and hence not suitable for your machine.
I don't know how this could happen. It seems like a problem with the ProKit updater that you said you ran.
You should contact Apple about this.

Moof 10-27-2006 02:35 PM

I am including a lot of info in this post in hopes that Google will tag this comment to help others solve the problem easier and faster:

PROBLEM:
Intel Mac will not launch Final Cut, Motion, DVD Studio Pro, Compressor
ProApp.Framework is PPC only
with PPC version of ProKit installed, Console crash.log shows:

Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit
Referenced from: /Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Final Cut Pro
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit: mach-o, but wrong architecture

without any ProKit.Framework installed, Console crash.log shows:

Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit
Referenced from: /Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Final Cut Pro

SOLUTION:
The solution to this problem (which the incompetent Apple support jerkoffs will never tell you - most likely because they are totally uninformed and clueless to begin with), is to get the Universal version of ProKit.Framework (v3.1.1) either from your Intel-based Tiger install DVD (via pacifist [Google it]) that came with your Intel-mac, OR download it from the following URL:

http://rapidshare.de/files/17871261/ProKit.zip.html

BE SURE TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS AFTER REPLACING/INSTALLING THE ProApp.Framework file into /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks

This will solve your problem. I have a huge headache after figuring this out and thanks to the obscure forums that showed how to do it:

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=196479

http://discussions.apple.com/thread....45256&#2845256

Enjoy.

RANT follows...
WTF does Apple not provide this little file on their support site? It doesn't appear to have been updated by any of the recent FCS/Pro App updates... and it's possible that FCS 5.1 installation will delete the ProApp.Framework that came installed on your computer. WTF do the support jerks do everything to get out of any obligation to help out... BASTARDS!!! :)

hilofoz 08-03-2007 08:33 AM

Thanks... it worked, and I have opened Aperture, and DVD Pro. I assume that the other apps open successfully at work. OS10.4.10 has been a right headache. What would I do without these forums!!!

gvelazqu 01-11-2008 11:04 AM

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but what do you mean by:

BE SURE TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS AFTER REPLACING/INSTALLING THE ProApp.Framework file

I am having this issue with Pro Logic Express 8. I have an Intel iMac running Leopard. I am getting the exact same error message about the prokit framework when I try launching Logic and Aperature.

Las_Vegas 01-11-2008 01:26 PM

After installing the framework, launch /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility, select your hard drive and click "Repair Disk Permissions." This should correct the permissions for the newly installed framework so the System and use it.

gvelazqu 01-11-2008 01:27 PM

Thanks! I'll give that a try.

Can someone please post a link for Prokit.Framework v3.1.1? The link provided (above) doesn't work anymore.

I really hope you guys still read this. I have the same problem and have done everything you've said but my dvd studio pro 4 still won't open. More precisely it only opens for a second and then displays an error message for a fraction of a second and I can only make out the bold words "unknown error" before it closes. Please help!
