I like it as well. I kind of want to learn how to make those strands. I know it's possible using very small increments of the twirl filter and some blending options, but in the end you have about 3 trillion layers.

It's really inefficient.

Another one. This one is a work in progress, just seeing how well it works.

I made a comment on your work last night, but it appears not to have been posted.

I like the twist and flow of the colors in the ribbon. Are you using photoshop to create these?

I came back to your post to give you this url. I just came across this person's work at deviantART, and thought you'd appreciate it.

This person is working with fractal art.

Anti 08-03-2008 05:30 PM

Yeah...that's my thing. Until I learn to work Blender, pretty much everything I make is from scratch in photoshop.

Also: That person's work is excellent. I love it.

If you like fractals, here is an interesting screensaver:

http://www.sticksoftware.com/software/Fracture.html

It creates fractals at random. The ones you like, you can save as Desktop photos. Some images are quite beautiful.

To free or not to free, that is the question.

You're right. It's $10 shareware. But, it's free to try. Remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Your electric sheep is not free either, if you account for the bandwidth and electricity. Plus, if you want to run it off line, you have to purchase the DVD! :p

While I'm at it, this is my current Desktop:

I have it up to remind me that we actually do have the occasional beach weather here in the UK, though I haven't seen proper surf since I left California!

The shot is from Broadstairs, Kent. The kids were all foreign students. It was a gorgeous day. Today is grey, damp and miserable. Boo hoo.

johngpt 08-05-2008 09:47 PM

Jerry, is the water temp as cold or colder there than what you'd found for same time of year in California?

But if there is no such thing as free lunch, then how come you exist on this message board?

It's part of the quantum conundrum.

(Adopt robot tone) Removal of space allows existence.

John: The water is freezing here. Even in California, the water was warmer the closer you got to Mexico. Above San Francisco, the air temp must be pretty darn hot before you'll venture in.

I went to Mazatlan once. At night, it was warmer in the water. The only thing that kept you out of the water was the sight of the hammerhead shark that had washed up on the beach.

Boring I knooooow. :D

freelunch 08-07-2008 01:35 PM

Beautiful. Is that a Hubble shot? Or a made up thingie?

freelunch 08-07-2008 01:43 PM

I walked into the lobby of the Imperial College, London, yesterday. Queen Victoria was there, so I took a photograph of her:

Notice the background? It has become my latest "op art" Desktop. Combine this (shown half size) with the LotsaWater screensaver and it does amazing things to your eyes:

I'm becoming rather envious of the pin sharp detail in your images.

I think you and Anti can have a go at each others' visual cortices.

Hmmm... there lies a story.

I'd been using a LaCie 22" CRT monitor for 10 years. It wasn't until I set up my mate's new Wintel Mac with a 23" Apple Cinema Display that I realised how fuzzy my own monitor was.

I recently purchased a Dell 24" TFT monitor and now realise that for the past ten years I've been seriously over sharpening all my photographs.

D'oh!

johngpt 08-10-2008 06:38 PM

Was doing more shooting this weekend, and caught the dining room blinds yesterday morning.

I generally prefer monochromatic desktop backgrounds.
