Azureus for Mac OS X (Intel)

Hi all,

Been trying the fix on: http://azureus.aelitis.com/wiki/index.php/Intel_Macs however, I don't seem to get it working on my new mac mini, does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks for any help!!

I find Azureus very un-Mac like, I perfer Tomato (http://sarwat.net/bittorrent/). Maybe it works and you could use it until the Azureus crowd gets a proper fix in?

I got it to work, after lots of fiddling. I can email it to you if you want.

Bits on Wheels works pretty good.

I haven't been able to get azureus on my macbook pro.

It now works on my MacBookPro - VERY FAST!!!

It's working on my MacBook Pro as well except for one thing. I can't start torrents by double-clicking them or by downloading them with Firefox or Safari (Azureus starts up by doesn't open the torrents). Instead, I need to choose Add Files from within Azureus or drag the torrent to the window. Anyone else see this bug? Any thoughts? I'm using 2.4.0.0 from the Wiki page. I've also blown away the .app and Library folders and reinstalled and had the same symptoms.

Ditto here (except I'm on a 20" iMac instead of a MacBook), and I did everything you did and tried applying the manual patch to 2.4.0.2 as well. I also even deleted org.gudy.azureus2.plist (in ~/Library/Preferences).

I, too, would be very interested if someone has a fix for this.

External Volume

Thanks for all you replies I now have Azureus working again!

One thing does seem to happen which is rather strange, despite the Save In directory being on an extrenal firewire drive, the mac mini's drive still seems to be filling up - no other apps other than Azureus running.

When I tried to change the 'save in' directory from within Azureus, I noticed that there were two entries for the external drive - it is not visible from within the finder though but visible from within 'Terminal'.

Any ideas how to fix this, the purpose of the external drive was not to use the Mac Mini's volume.

Many thanks for any further help!!!

The problem is probably due to detritus left over in the /Volumes folder from some previous incident when that drive was not properly unmounted.

First unmount and physically disconnect all external drives and network drives.
Then use the menu item "Go to Folder..." from Finder's "Go" menu, and then type in "/Volumes" (without the quotes).

Look at the contents of the /Volumes folder.
If you see anything other than the one entry for your internal drive, that is likely the detritus I spoke of above.

Use Finder to trash the left over folders from /Volumes. (If you are sure that no external disks or network drives are connected then this can't affect what is on the external disks.) Finally, empty the Trash.

How do you get these BT clients to work from behind a proxy? I access the internet from uni campus. Cheers

Azureus for intel macs

I downloaded the altered version of Azureus the one designed to work for Intel Macs (Azureus 2.4.0.2. universal), however i can't get my torrent files to start seeding. When i double click on the torrent file (on the desktop) Azureus opens but the file doesn't appear and nothing happens.

Lol can anyone help me? I'm pretty hopeless....

teknovision 05-07-2006 10:41 AM

the same happens here, must be a bug. Either drag and drop or open from within the Application (File > Open Torrent File.. .). Hope that helps.. .

can recommend BITS ON WHEELS

really this program is AWESOME. I was right behind azureus back when it wasn't even released now it has too many features and WAY to much bloat. BITS ON WHEELS is fast, slick, does just what is necessary (speed limit, etc). Rock on, thanks for the tip guy :D

this isn't an intel-mac only thing

same thing has always happened on my powerbook.
so i guess you should just chase the developers.

Importing of torrents automatically works for me, you just have to set prefs correctly: Prefs > Files > Torrents and check 'Import new .torrents automatically'.

All my Safari downloads got to Public and I have set Azureus accordingly.

:D

This is a completely different option ... this watches the specified folder looking for new .torrent files and opens them as they appear.

What's broken is that double-clicking a .torrent file in the Finder should open that torrent in Azureus. It doesn't, all that happens is that Azureus is brought to the foreground. If anyone has a fix for this, please post it!

I have never once had an issue running it on my mac pro... it worked perfectly from day one and worked fine after I updated to OSX 10.5.

Yeah, but Azureus is the most accepted BT client for many private trackers. Once you disable the stupid VUZE interface (takes two mouse clicks in the preferences) it's worked pretty well for me on my Mac Mini.

I've downloaded hundreds of TV shows and movies -- these are ones that friends and family made of course :D -- with no problems and no crashes.

Some people say that Azureus is a memory hog, but I have 2GB of RAM in my mini, and it works fine!

Ok, the most popular file extension for your pirated errr... family movies is AVI format which is not supported by Windows Media Player nor Quicktime (without codecs)

I suggest you try out VLC Player -- the OSX version is awesome.

mclbruce 05-22-2008 02:06 AM

For playing AVIs on the Mac here are two essential, and free, add-ons for QuickTime:
Perian - http://perian.org/
WMV - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...omponents.mspx

A couple of free standalone players for stubborn files:
Xinema - http://xineplayer.berlios.de/
VLC - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html

A free, easy to use BT client: Transmission - http://www.transmissionbt.com/
