What model of Mac do you have?
What version of OS X ?

You should try the standard troubleshooting suggestions:
http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/ (see the "My Mac needs help" section)
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...04011205473937
http://forums.osxfaq.com/viewtopic.php?t=7269

In particular, be sure to try logging in as a different user to see if the problem exists there. (Create a new user via the Accounts preference panel if you only have the one user account so far.)

I have a mini mac OS X Version 10.3.9

Jackie, a couple of quick tips. Do you have the latest patch for you game? If not, go to the website for the sims, download it and install it. The issue, as you describe it, sounds like a software issue. So there should be a patch for it out there.

Also, we need more detail on what kind of computer you have. What processor speed does it have, and what size is the harddrive?

jackie123 01-11-2006 08:25 PM

CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
Memory: 256 MB, is that what you mean? if I need to give you more info, I will

Don't suppose you installed it as one user (probably an admin account) and are now trying to play it when logged in as another user?

If so it's a permissions problem - the game tries to save to its main folder but can't because the current user doesn't have write permissions on that folder, so it errors out and quits.

Some other games have the same problem.

Hope that helps.

Rob.

thank you, but it actually happened when i was playing on the main screen

jackie123 01-11-2006 08:52 PM

I have another question, does it have anything to do w/me dnlding stuff off the internet for the game? If so, how can i go about still dnlding stuff for the sims game, and not have to worry about the game not saving after i play the game ? Is there anything I could do to prevevnt that?
Thanks for all your help

Jay Carr 01-12-2006 12:28 AM

Wait, are you download custom content for you game? Like mods that others are making and aren't from the people who made the sims? Hmm... I've heard of save game features having problems if you're playing the wrong version of a custom made modification. Did you patch the game to the latest versions yet?

jackie123 01-12-2006 03:56 PM

I did do all the patches i possibly could.
Yes i have been dnlding stuff from what other people have made,
is there a website that sims has? that i could be dnlding instead?

Jay Carr 01-12-2006 05:35 PM

Yes and no. Usually games have official sites, but usually all of their player made content is just as finicky. Can you not save in any of the versions you have? I.e., can you still save games as long as you use the original game to do it? Or is the game not saving period.

If the second option is what's happening I'm afraid you don't have a lot of options at this point. With how you describe the crash I'm willing to bet the problem is the game itself. Thus, you'd need to uninstall the game (make sure you backup any save files you do have) and reinstall it. Then, patch it up and make sure that if you download anymore custom content that you check around to make sure it won't screw up your game.

jackie123 01-14-2006 08:05 PM

Yes, I can save the original game, some how my sims deleted alot of the stuff I had dnlded, & then it started working ok after that.
How did that happen? I never deleted anything, it's like it just deleted all the bad stuff, how can that be?

jackie123 01-14-2006 08:06 PM

How do i back up my sims game?

Jay Carr 01-15-2006 01:54 AM

To back up your sims games go into your directory for the sims and find the folder titled 'saves' (or something like that.) Make a copy of it and store it somewhere else. Later, when you need the saves again, take the saves out of that folder and put them into the 'saves' folder in your sims directory again.

So it just deleted the bad stuff? Sounds like part of a patch file to me, but I can't be sure. The way I see it, if it works, don't worry about it :-).

jackie123 01-16-2006 05:40 PM

so, if i dnld stuff again, & it starts acting up, do I just run the patch?

Jay Carr 01-17-2006 03:21 AM

It's worth a shot, but let me explain.

Sometimes patches will delete files that exist on your computer, but in order to do that the files have to be listed inside of the patch. This makes it unlikely that the game would delete files from user created content by itself.

I'm still not sure what happened, honestly. But I'm glad it's working.

Just to summarize what's been said so far. Make sure that your computer and the game are completely current. Download OSX 10.4.4 if you haven't already, it has updates for your video card. And make sure you're all patched up (which you said you are.)

And, a quick warning. Be careful with user created content. Sometimes you can't be sure if the person putting the modification together is doing it correctly. This can cause your game to do odd things, like be unable to save or perhaps crash the game. The point is, be careful. Always have your saved games backed up, and always be ready to reinstall the whole thing again.

Anyway, I hope this all helped... If you need anything else just post it.

jackie123 01-22-2006 06:35 PM

When i went to dnld 10.4.4, says i can not, is there a way i can?

Jay Carr 01-23-2006 02:22 AM

Um, if you go to apples site and type 10.4.4 download in the search bar at the bottom it will show you the file that you are looking for. But you should be able to just use Apple update from the Apple menu. Is that what you tried to do?

jackie123 01-23-2006 08:13 PM

I did try that, would not give me 10.4.4

Jay Carr 01-24-2006 12:11 AM

Odd, very odd. I'm really not very familiar with this, I only know a bit about games because I design them and play them all the time... I would try and post a new thread about this under the 'system' section. They'll be able to help you a lot better.

jackie123 01-24-2006 05:46 PM

ok, thank you

jackie123 01-24-2006 05:52 PM

Guess what? My sims game is going crazy again, I was wondering, is there away to fix the cd? I have Disk Warrior, but I am not sure of how to use it.
