I'm not sure if this site already does threads like these, but it's kind of cool to see what background images people are using for their desktops each month.

This month (or at least for the time being), I am using a cool shot of a Viper that I downloaded from DieselStation.com. Enjoy. :)

Oooh, I like the Viper.

I'm a big Anime freak (okay, maybe just a freak in general), and Ah! My Goddess is one of my favorites. But, no matter how you look at it, this picture is just freaking cool.

Thanks for stepping up, Zalister. :)

I'm not quite the "Anime freak" you are, but we can agree that picture is freaking cool. ;) :D

I heard about David Lanham over at DrunkenBlog...I've been hooked since.

CAlvarez 11-16-2005 01:34 AM

Since this is on my TV, is it still a "desk" top?

Jay Carr 11-16-2005 02:29 AM

I guess it counts, though "wall paper" might have worked a little better :-).

How many pixels does that thing push? I had a friend who was thinking of getting the same set up to do some photo editing (save some money and get a bigger screen), but we're not convinced that the picture quality will be up to snuff.

CAlvarez 11-16-2005 02:44 AM

It's 1920x1080 resolution, interlaced. Video looks fine, but text is a bit jittery due to the interlacing. Photo editing on a projection TV?? No way. I mean, when I'm editing photos I often want close-in detail, and this isn't going to give that.

We use it to watch IP TV/video podcasts, downloaded movies, flip through photos, etc.

Jay Carr 11-16-2005 11:18 AM

Ah... Okay, I'll pass that along.

Wow, I really like Lanham's style! Very clean.

CAlvarez 11-16-2005 12:09 PM

Heh, yeah, but since everyone changes it, isn't using the default its own form of uniqueness?? :D

I recently decided to switch between two backgrounds. The one up above and this one that I got from applegeeks.com. Something about the contrast of anger and joy every five minutes just keeps me awake during the day...

lyndonl: I liked that photo so much I spent a great deal of time on the Air Force site.... I collected a batch and am using them as a screensaver... After a few airshows, gotta love those jets!

this is a screenshot from my fave film "the omega man" dont know how the quality will look here as i have had to shrink it down to attatch it, but i ran it thru photoshop, to give it a nice soft finish. i usually have a screenshot everymonth, and its usually somthing from twin peaks!, nearly every frame in that is worth a desktop.

however... thinking about maybe changing it, as my friend pointed out that 'mathias' bears a striking resemblance to potential kiddie sniffer sir jimmy saville, its kind of made me hate it!

miacomet 11-20-2005 02:13 PM

This thread reminds me that I need a new desktop...

There is a lot to be said for 20 tons of steel when it carries so much power speed and mayhem :)

Grayscale desktop

I like grayscale desktops because they don't mess up my color perception for working on photographs. Continuing with the military aircraft theme, I'm using this Flying Wing desktop. I got it here and cleaned it up a bit:

http://www.edwards.af.mil/gallery/html_pgs/bomber2.htm

The other day I stumbled on a link that has some incredible old black and white photos.

http://lcweb2.loc.gov/pp/ggbainhtml/...ubjindex1.html

For example, who could resist this as a desktop?

I have a real liking for B&W or Greyscale pics.

and those are fantastic.

Jay Carr 11-21-2005 10:23 PM

The Flying Wing! Wow, I forget what X number that was, but it was a really nifty design. Not really realized until the B2, a whole three decades later. Apparently landing the thing was a real problem, get the nose up to high and you'd get a nasty stall that only ended when you hit the ground...

mkoreiwo 11-22-2005 08:02 AM

I too love B&W.... History or Discovery had a great special on the flying wing, called something like "The Wing Will Fly"... A great show.

I plan to check out all the B&W links later at home. Nothing like a well exposed/printed black and white photo!
