What desktop wallpaper websites do you use? I cant find any good ones!

Never used a "desktop wallpaper website" in my life.

Why would I? What's the point? Find an image you like that either has the aspect ration of your screen or that you can modify so that it does; downsize it if necessary (you don't need a 7 megapixel image for a 1024 x 768 PowerBook screen).

A "wallpaper" image isn't a thing different from some other image, you know.

I see what you mean, even if you are a little dramatic about it, I would count that as a desktop wallpaper though

pixelgirl.com or something like that. Google pixel girl, one has real good pictures.

Depending on what you are looking for i found a bunch at www.spymac.com and http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/ Just a note though the spymac gallery is currently offline as they migrate to a new version.

The best background ever resides on www.digitalblasphemy.com . It's a picture of a bunch of glowing 'shrooms. Coolest thing ever. It's one of the ten images you can download for free.

I wonder, do you guys know a good site on digital photography?
I mean, I bought a good semi-professional camera and I want very much to learn more about the process of making good photos.
Maybe you know where I can find some theory...

Two publications which I like very much are sister magazines from the UK.

They are Practical Photography and Digital Photo.

I usually purchase them at a local bookstore here in Albuquerque, getting them about a month behind their issue dates.

I just tried going to the url given in one of the magazines, and it brought me to this instead, which links to both the publications.

Digital Photo comes with a CD each month, including video tutorials for photoshop, elements, and paint shop pro.

Practical Photography isn't limited to digital photography, with quite useful bits on all aspects.

Now and then I use StumbleUpon in Firefox and stumble across quite interesting photography sites.

And of course, google is our friend.

BTW, what kit are you using?

All of my desktops just got a lot cooler. I downloaded a program called wallsaver that allows me to put screensavers as backgrounds. On top of this, I found a screensaver called Lotsawater that allows me to put my desktop image into a screen that looks like water is dripping onto it.

So...I'm not sure that's a super effective description. So I recommend giving it a try yourself. The result is phenomenal.

Whoa!!! That Lotsawater! Makes me believe I'm having a flashback. Darn good acid. :D

Have to admit, did feel a little trippy when I opened up my computer this morning and the background was waving around like that...

Lotsawater is my preferred screen saver, too.
For wallpapers I prefer to use a nice NASA image – for instance of northern lights, earthrise or full earth.

I second that link, I have tons of pics from it on my desktops.

Simplify, simplify, simplify. I choose a color, and stick with it a while.

why be a minimalist when you get such a pretty mac screen with your iMac or Mac laptop? I used to use basic wall papers on my older computers that have older monitors, however, now that I have nice wide screen displays I use nice wide screen wall papers.

There's something to be said for a zen-like simplicity. Calming, no clutter. Easy to find icons.

I tend toward black and white, but with my icons arranged on the right, I carefully choose the composition to keep that portion of the background less noisy.

I tend to go for pics of my kids. I find they have a calming effect when I feel like nutting my boss.

The wallclocks at vladstudio.com are nice.

I keep photos of the kids on my desk as a gentle reminder not to be in too much of a hurry to go home.

I have zero desktop icons with the exception of my HD. I hate cluttered as well. In fact when users come to me with their laptops and like a billion files on their desktop, the first thing I do is toss them all in one folder.

I've read that having loose files on the desktop increases resource utilization, and that having things in folders minimizes utilization, making it easier on the operating system.

While I didn't have a gazillion icons, I'm trying your advice and keeping things in a Main_Folder. Here's my latest desktop. This is a snap of a tree stump in our neighborhood, heavily manipulated in photoshop, using curves adjustment layers with masks to increase contrast selectively.

I`ve had this wallpaper for 5 years now.. the computers have changed,the years passed by.. but she remained there.. I don`t even remember how I got this wallpaper but I really need to know where it came from..
All I have is the name LOUIE signed at the bottom of it.. can anyone help?

Free backgrounds to increase your productivity
 

I've started making backgrounds that are colorful and help me keep my desktop organized. They are free and anybody is welcomed to use them.
