hi

because of the time it took to get the password sorted out they did not go into the network problem in detail. he said he checked my airport settings and it joined his network no problem and got on to the net.

the dvd issue seemed to be timing of when to hold c restart etc but eventually
it went straight to where you guys said it should. he then reset the password.

its baffling when you see the macs side by side and even the g3 ibook
is lightning compared with the g5 which off course it should'nt be.

as soon as i got back i started it up get to my homepage (google) after a count of 10/20 then its like that each time you move sites, like i say it makes it impossible to use. the signal strength in airport also dips below
the max to 2 and 3 bars ( it rarely does this on the ibooks )

1) Try the 'debug_http' script that I outlined in this old thread:
http://forums.macosxhints.com/showpo...91&postcount=7
It will tell you which of the many interacting parts of loading a web page is the slow part. Show us the results and we can help interpret.

2) I am also concerned that your troubles with the DVD are a sign of a more fundamental problem. You should at least boot from the DVD again and do the "Repair Disk":

It's hard to tell much from that. I suggest that you use the 'debug_http' script that I explained in that article rather than just the basic 'curl' - it adds options to the 'curl' invocation to give more info.
