Safari Download Problems

Hi all,

I'm in Safari 2.0 on OSX 10.4.2 and in the past couple of days i've been having consistent download problems on anything over 10MB.

Once a download reaches over 15mb, 9 times out of 10 it cuts out saying "POSIX Error: Connection reset by peer". I've tried re-downloading the files but to no success.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

You haven't been very clear on this, but I assume the problem is with downloads from a particular website.

The error message means that the web server you are connected to has crashed, or cut the connection. i.e. the problem is not at your end but the remote end. There's nothing you can do except find out from the server's owner what the problem is.

:(
I am having problem to download bigger files. For example, when I tried to download a 30MB file, it started the download pretty quick but would never complete, always stopped at around 80% of the file size and I got the POSIX error, connection reset by peer error.
Need help on this!!!
Please!

I am having the same problem now, has anyone got any answer to this, what the site owner needs to do about it?

yellow 06-06-2006 03:26 PM

Where are you downloading from? Have you tried multiple sources?
What version of OS X?
What troubleshooting steps have you tried?

More info is always better..

You should just explain the exact issue your having to the site admin and see what he has to say about it.

Need Help!!!

I tried to download some pdf files from a secure web site with my account information. I can download it fine from my pc, but not from the Mac OS 10.4.4!
I have used the ftp passive mode, disabled Ipv6 as someone mentioned in another thread, i pinged with the command: ping - D -s 1472 -c 1 www.thesite.com, no package lost, still could not download completely, stops at almost the end of the download.

macheadache 06-06-2006 04:39 PM

I did, but the site administrator said the other users does not have this issue, this should be something on my end but I could not figure it out.

Why haven't you updated to 10.4.6 ? You should.

And please tell us about what your network setup is like. What kind of an Internet connection do you have? How is your Mac connected to this?

So this is an FTP site?
What FTP client are you using? If you are just using Safari and/or Finder, thne try using one of the specialized FTP clients that you can find at www.macupdate.com (e.g. "Fetch", "Transmit", "Cyberduck", etc).

Does this happen when using another user account ? or using another browser ?

hayne 06-06-2006 05:10 PM

macheadache:
I have merged your other thread (titled "POSIX error ...") into this thread.
We can't have the same issue being discussed in two separate threads. That's too confusing and leads to duplication of effort. In future, pick one thread and stick to it.

macheadache 06-06-2006 05:15 PM

ok, sorry for this!
No, I have not upgraded to 10.4.6 yet and I will do it now.
This is a company mac with both pc and mac in the network that each assigned with a static intranet ip address, then with the dns setting, we still can get out of the firewall and we have T1 connection.
currently only has one admin account on this mac.
sorry made you confused, this is not a ftp download but a http download. i made that change just tried to change the settings to see if that could make any difference.

macheadache 06-06-2006 05:22 PM

actually, it is the https pdf download!

So if I understand you correctly (reading a bit between the lines), you are doing an HTTPS download in Safari and you have the Network Preferences set up to use the corporate proxy - is that right?
The problem might be a problem with the proxy and HTTPS.

Then create another one using the Accounts preferences. Then see if the problem exists when using that freshly created account.

What do you mean by "using the accounts preferences". I have the same network settings (I mean the same dns settings and just a different ip address) as I have the pc, do not have problem to download it from pc.

Create a new user and test to see if your HTTP downloads fail there as well.
Also, try a different (non-Safari) browser to see if that breaks.

macheadache 06-07-2006 10:07 AM

Ok, I will, just wonder why as an administrator has this problem, another user account may not have this problem? Do i need to give the admin right to this user? I have not created a new account before.

It doesn't matter.. the point of trying this (it's a normal troubleshooting step) is it helps determine if the problem is relegated to your "normal" user, or if it's a (mac) system wide problem.

macheadache 06-07-2006 11:32 AM

Amazing, this problem fixed itself! I tried this morning, got the same error, now I do not see it any more!
Thank you all!
