here is me!

Desktop? Who ever sees the desktop? I have slivers of it peeking from the sides of the dock, but all other parts of the screen are covered by apps. I use the built-in nature photos set to random.
Middle screen, main screen on the G5: http://www.cbr1100xx.org/temp/oct/middle.jpg Right screen, extended desktop on the G5: http://www.cbr1100xx.org/temp/oct/right.jpg Left screen, PowerBook 12" used via Synergy: http://www.cbr1100xx.org/temp/oct/left.jpg You don't want to see the fourth screen, it runs on the Windows server... :D |
First off, I'm not posting the screen of my little PB 12" after that flagrant display of screenyness... I think I have screen envy. But for those who want a good description...well, it usually looks the coolest when I have all my freaking programs open, Eclipse, Safari, Mail, iCal, iTunes, Colloquy, Terminal (unix is still a bear), and other random apps I might need. The other time my screen looks cool is when I have one of my ten games open (oh yeah, my dock looks cool too...)
CAlarez- What exactly is synergy? Not, like, the group oriented 'lets all get along' kind. But the app. |
Synergy lets you use multiple computers as if they were one. You slide the mouse across the screens the same as having an extended desktop. I've got the G5, PB, and a Windows 2003 machine running it and can go across all of them. Whatever machine/screen the mouse is on, the keyboard goes to that machine. You can even cut/paste across machines with it, which is important to me. It's open source, free.
It gets a little schizophrenic having multiple machines, running multiple OSs, and each of them further containing terminal sessions to various other machines, but that's what I do all day. Synergy really helps so I don't have more piles of windows over windows. Right now I'm looking at and working across OS X, Fedora 3, Redhat Enterprise, Windows 2003, and Windows XP. Oh, and Windows 2000 in VPC. I'm a heavy multi-tasker, you could say. Oh yeah, and I forgot I also have a remote session to my Pocket PC running over there on the right screen inside one of the TS sessions. |
CAlvarez, you are my new hero. What on earth do you do for a living? I want to have 4 or 5 screens going at any given time!
|
I'm a geek/consultant. Design and manage business systems, IS, IT stuff, all inter-related. I get to also play with some video systems that are Mac based, and I do some sideline work in photography sometimes. And lately I've been working with some VoIP systems and call center software.

I need help. I always have major trouble trying to post pics off my desktop or anything on this site. When I take the screenshot, it always tells me the file is two big. How do I make the size of the file smaller?
Thanks Jim |
i had the same problem too it says it was to big so i resized the photo with a program called resize. im sure there is an easier way but this was pretty easy to me. http://kstudio.net/dlpages/rex.html this is the link for it. just make a new folder put the photo in it and resize it to 640x480. also an easy way to make the jpg smaller is take it into preview hit "save as" and turn down the quality of the jpg.

Here's me. G5 with 20" display.
|
Whilst I was borrowing my dads 15" this was the desktop and a list of stuff.
Now I'm back on my 12" *cries* and my 'new' 15" is actually a battered 15" that is waiting to go back to the ebay seller (stupid rip off people.) My current desktop is the same think different pic as on the 15". In fact its all the same (gotta love apple migration assistant!) |
iNemo, where did you get that desktop?

A sense of home...

.
I really like this NASA photo -- it gives me a sense of "home". You can see the curvature and almost feel the thickness ’n layers of the atmosphere. Open apps (hidden): Word, Entourage, PowerPoint, Safari, iTunes, MacJanitor, iPhoto, iPhoto Library Manager, Photoshop, Preview, Acrobat Reader. |
I have two screens, and what it looks like totally depends on what I'm doing. If I'm doing some software development then my big screen is totally owned by NetBeans or Eclipse (it's all Java stuff). And my second screen has the terminal open, Safari for my JavaDocs and usually Adium open so I can chat with my friends about how we're going to do the program.
When I'm feeling up to it I'll dink with the Torque Game Engine. I'm not all that great with it, but I'm slowly learning. Usually I'll let the main editor window own my big screen again. Then I'll have tutorials opened in Safari, JEdit opened so I can work on TorqueScript, Adium so I can chat with anyone who happens to show up and, occasionally, textEdit for quick notes. The only other major activity I do with my computer is recording stuff in GarageBand. I usually take my laptop away from the big screen for that. Thus GarageBand owns my little 12" screen. I'd post my backgrounds, but I don't want to take the time to shrink them down. If you want to see the backgrounds I use go to http://www.digitalblasphemy.com. Right now I'm using the one called "something blue". And my dock is as follows: Finder Safari Solitaire Forever Star Wars Battlefront Baldur's Gate HomeWorld Nuku JEDict iCal iSync Adium iTunes GarageBand Activity Monitor Terminal iPhoto Dictionary Word TextEdit Excel Calculator HandBrake Torque OSX Blender The Gimp 2.2 Zippist Fugu NetBeans JEdit Eclipse System Preferences PCGen Trash |
