How much music do you have?

I was thinking about my iPod today. I wondered how long it would take to fill 20 GBs of music. So I thought it might be interesting to find out how much music we all have. I'll go first: 566 songs, 1:23:14:02 total times, 3.25 GB.

Strangely, on my iBook, it tells me I have 3.25 GB but on my iPod, it says I have 3.45 GB.

manic_mouse 09-18-2005 08:28 PM

2053 songs - 8.50 GB - 5:08:09:54 - when i first got my iPod i had around 70songs - and i would have a lot more than i have now but my stoopid old dell died and i lost 1000+ songs from it - then i bought a mac.

nekogami13 09-18-2005 08:36 PM

310 songs= 1.30 gb= 1.5 days of music

xlax999999 09-18-2005 08:42 PM

11780 songs, 37:20:57:24 total time, 59.30 GB

CAlvarez 09-18-2005 09:10 PM

1162, 4.2 days, 5.47GB

I used to have double that, but when I got a 6GB iPod Mini, it prompted me to trim down and keep it under 6GB.

My girlfriend has an 80GB drive dedicated to music...and it's full...

frankko 09-18-2005 09:37 PM

10327 songs, 28:00:44:00 total time, 59.74 GB.

guardian34 09-18-2005 09:54 PM

227 songs, 14.8 hours, 1.21 GB

pantherman13 09-18-2005 10:44 PM

I also have 56 photos on there. It was 74 or 75 earlier, but I deleted some. Its now 3.31 GB. Me and my friends are in competition to see who can get more music. He has alot more songs then me, but mine are longer, so i have less songs and more GBs.

xlax999999 09-19-2005 12:19 AM

I have to do some selecting to fit it on my 60GB iPod. They are all full albums so sometimes I am at a loss as to what to leave out.

Carlos, why not, instead of trimming your collection, just uncheck the songs you do not want on your iPod or perhaps make only certain playlists update?

That's just too annoying to manage; I like things really simple. I got rid of a lot of stuff that I'd accumulated for no particular reason over the years. I had no compelling reason to delete it before, but never listened to it.

Caius 09-19-2005 02:27 AM

Now I have 479 songs, 1:14:14:40, 2.15GB. Before my HD crashed and burned (failed) I had over 12,000.

And I only have a 4GB nano now  (used to have 512MB shuffle and 4GB Mini.)

Updating from selected playlists is just marvelous.

lightsanddesign 09-19-2005 02:33 AM

i have around 15,000 songs my 40gig iPod is full, and my 20gig iPod is also full.. and not all my music is across there.. i have around 65gigs of music...

ShavenYak 09-19-2005 11:41 AM

I have something like 10,000 tunes in my iTunes library, about 50GB I think. I also have at least 300 more CDs to rip, so I'll be in lightsanddesign's ballpark when I get finished... next year.... ;) Perhaps a 100GB iPod will be out by the time I finish.

Twelve Motion 09-19-2005 11:58 AM

I have 5,000 or so songs, a little over 11 gigs. Mostly techno and video game music rips... I remember the day my amount of music surpassed my iPods capacity... It was a heck of a day.

Now how much of all that music we are all talking about is legally purchased :D

Don't answer that.

fat elvis 09-19-2005 01:17 PM

1703 songs, 9.03GB

oddly enough, I have way more than that in legal CD purchases. I think my home collection is around 300 CDs (not counting burned)

SC_shooter 09-19-2005 05:21 PM

2385 songs
6.6 days
17.83 Gb

All legal, I might add.

Paul

pantherman13 09-19-2005 05:40 PM

I am also proud to say that all of my music is legal, either from the iTunes Music Store or CDs. I don't care if they call it sharing, P2P networks is just stealing. If you know the person who lent you the song, thats different.

cameranerd74 09-19-2005 11:25 PM

8.28 GB - 1905 Songs - 5.5 Days

My 10 GB iPod is almost full

lightsanddesign 09-20-2005 01:08 AM

yeah i will add.. that all my music is legal.. I have purchased it from Online music stores (bigpond in australia) since we dont have itms yet.. or from cds i have in my collection

stetner 09-20-2005 04:39 AM

Bah, when will apple support Australia, or Bigpond support the Mac?

Sweet. :D About a third of my library is electronica/techno, and about a fifth of my library is video game music too (not rips though). Have you been to http://ocremix.org ? I have tons from there; a couple of friends of mine are trying to get every song on there. (The site has a torrent for all of them, so I guess it's not that hard, but I download them individually.)

The rest of my library is "normal" music though :) . My latest favorite thing is ska. Anyways, my library seems to grow about a gig every 2-3 months somehow... heh heh. No, actually, I have never used any P2P programs. Most of my library comes from CDs and legal downloads (which include songs from sites like ocremix -- they're made by people like you and me from scratch, and are posted there to download by other people to comment on).

MacTwist 09-22-2005 12:08 PM

656 titles, 1.8 days, 3.69GB

all from my own cd's :)

wolfiemac 09-22-2005 02:20 PM

yeah I know ALL about OCRemix I have over a hundred tracks from there. I like alot of the stuff, but not all so I do pick and choose 1 song at a time. I am a huge fan though and check thats site all the time. As for actual rips, I got a program by Richard Bannaster called Audio Overload which playes video game music files in spc and rar format. You can download VG music rips from Zophars.net if you are into that kind of stuff. Mega Man 3 and Secret of Mana have the best music IMO.

Other than that, Plastikman is by FAR my favorite artist. His forte is minimalist techno. But I love most electronic.

Oh yeah, here is my one attempt at a techno song. I made it myself :D

Rungus Lives!

FireWired 09-23-2005 11:41 PM

Cool -- yeah, I'm glad I discovered it. Actually, I just found out about the program Audio Overload last time I visited OCRemix (about 3 days ago). It's pretty awesome, they sound way better than MIDIs (which used to be the closest I could find to the original music). (Then again, just about anything sounds better than MIDIs...)

I haven't heard any stuff from Plastikman; is he on OCRemix? I couldn't find him. I'd have to say my favorite artist on there is bLiNd -- but not entirely because of his video game music (although it's all pretty good too). His website (www.thebrailroom.com, which seems to be down right now, hope it's not down for good...) hosts his original music pieces, and some (most) of it is the best trance I've ever heard. Especially this one song, which I guess he took off now (since it wasn't there anymore last time I checked). It's catchy and "flows" really well.

I listened to your song -- nice! I've made lots of GarageBand songs, mostly techno type stuff using loops, but really tweaking a lot of things with them. I also add other sound effects, such as thunder in this "Digital Thunder" song I made. :D Keep it up though, since I've found that each of my songs are usually not as bad as the last. I wish I could play the keyboard though. Then I'd really be in business... :D

rj89 09-24-2005 01:26 AM

2958 songs / 8:02:12:25 / 14.02 gb (most songs are 200+kbs mp3's)

Twelve Motion 09-26-2005 02:10 PM

Plastikman isn't from OCremix. Plastikman is the AKA of Richie Hawtine or... something like that. I am much more familair with Plastikman than I am with his real name.

Hogster 09-27-2005 04:19 AM

2709 songs, 12:02:53:03 total time, 17.14 GB, 40GB 4th Gen iPod.

Now I have all my decent music back:

4889 songs, 13:20:37:54 total time, 19.72 GB

And on the iPod:

338 songs, 1:00:03:22 total time, 1.34 GB, 734 photos, 1.42 GB used totally

dubbb 09-29-2005 05:07 AM

quality over quantity

Got around 25 Giga, the real question is the content of the files...

Best breakbit, Ragae, dub, R & B, house, funk, blues, Rockabilly, vintage rock...
What do you have? where do you get it from...? :)

Might be a slightly dodgy question for some people ;)

Personally mine is mostly from CD's and iTMS, but I have taken a few tracks off other peoples iPods and given them a few in return.
