Lots of folks seem to have the LaCie 250Gig external HD...is this a fairly standard add-on for Mac users? Sorry - I'm a Mac newbie :)

Sturdy drive, great price. I have been using two 160GB LaCie Firewire D2s with my Mini with no problems.

CAlvarez 09-27-2005 02:34 PM

It's overpriced, but it always works. If you want to save a little money you can buy an external case for around $35 and just put a standard drive in it. Otherwise, the Lacie is definitely easy and reliable.

My Set-Up...

Ok, my set ups are a mess, I know, and the pictures are crap: There a bunch of speakers and an airport or two not in the pictures. Still, I thought it would be humorous to label every part of my set-up, including the nail scissors lying around at the time :p

Haha I like the "Hair Brush" touch.

G4 DI 733 w/ GeForce4 MX 32 MB, ADC 22" Cinema Display, huggy bear Labtec speakers (I have a pair of Apple Pro speakers but these babies crank much louder hehehe), Palm V sync with Keyspan USB serial.

In the Spirit of this thread (and the new 15" I got yesterday!) I've updated my picture, and also added the shot of the iMac + stuff downstairs.

On a side note, people tell me my home network is a bit complicated for 3 - 6 computers! Two routers, airport express + other bits and pieces (including Apple Remote Desktop!)

I still have 2 15" powerbooks at dads (although they are his), 2 more 15" 's on the way from ebay (fingers crossed!) plus the older stuff such as:

Mac Classic SE
LC II
Apple ][e
Newton messagepad 120

plus random stuff such as an apple cd player, apple speakers, etc.

Since your supposed to be a student, I'm starting to think your a drug dealer or something of the kind... Either that or your realy lucky to have such nice parents :D

Caius 10-05-2005 05:01 PM

The macs have been aquired over the years. I grew up hanging off the Apple ][ then Apple ][e joystick on the coffee table.

I'm a mac baby

Is the G5 suspended? It looks like it's attached to the side of the desk.

CAlvarez 10-17-2005 12:13 AM

It's on a platform that attaches to the side of the desk, and is held there with a nylon web strap that you can barely see looped through the handles on the G5 case (it's a gray strap). The whole thing is modular and adjustable; those gray metal uprights on the sides are full of holes all the way up. You can attach various things at any level you want. There's also a cable manager underneath, and some more swivel shelves I haven't attached yet (similar to what the PB is on). I have my printer on another swivel shelf hanging off the opposite side of the G5 now. Really a nice setup for a computer-centric worker.

Raven 10-17-2005 03:54 PM

I've had other versions of this desk (or very similar ones in structure) and found them realy nice. The're realy sturdy (only not so expensive desk I had than didn't bend over time form having two heavy ViewSonic 19 inch monitor on it !), configurable, "relatively" light. Sold the last one with my old computer since for now I only have a PB for home, but will surely get a new model of the same kind when I get (hopefully soon) a new iMac G5 (don't realy need anything more than that at home).

CAlvarez 10-17-2005 05:09 PM

Yeah, by using metal they avoided the usual problems with cheap press-board furniture. Plus it's cheap, around $220 as seen there (many parts are sold separately so price varies by configuration). Easiest furniture assembly I've had to do.
