What does Steve have up his sleeve?
With the Macworld Parix Expo rapidly approaching, the rumors are flying about what Steve will unveil. What do you guys think he will amaze the world with?
I think a video iPod is overdue. Perhaps one that can connect to your wireless network to transfer files, or purchase music right from the iPod. There is also speculation about a Tablet iBook, or PowerBook. That would be awesome. If they make a wireless iPod, they could call it a wiPod ( Pronounced like wyPod ) If they make a video iPod, it could be the Video iPod, or a vPod. This is all speculation. What do you think? |
More about Leopard, maybe.
|
Steve says you don't want a video iPod. Just like he said I didn't want a Newton.
I half-think we might see a new, closer shipping date for Intel machines, or at least a firm commitment. |
|
I just remembered Leopord! I can't wait to see it.
|
I'm hoping to hear of a dual-core G4 PowerBook.

Earlier introduction dates for Intel PowerMacs would be nice, w/ Quadro cards as an option, I don't really have a need for laptops or all in one machines. But people are saying that it will be the last Macs to change over to Intel chips. |

I think your all going to be disapointed!
I think apple will announce an iphone (Motorola), will announce music videos on itunes at £1.49 (has anyone noticed how long it has been since the music vids were updated?!) and thats your lot. The ibook update, the mini update, even the powerbook update and G5 PM update were all crap, I think they are holding off until the intel chips appear, I dont think a video ipod is on the cards coz who has that much video that they really require a video ipod????? not me..... and I am mr technology! I think any updates will be lame like the mighty mouse, impact resistant hard drives (which Dell and Sony have done for ages) and probiably a widescreen version of the powebook :( sorry to be so bleek! |
Oh yeah, the iTunes phone. Well, that's been "pre" announced so many times, who cares? Let's see it, or shut up about it. Especially since I've had a phone/MP3 combo for about...oh three years I guess. Oh yeah, it's new tech. MS had it years ago, but it's new now that Apple is doing it. It also seems odd for them to cut into their own iPod revenue, but I guess the phone providers will do it with them or without them.

Bluetooth ear buds?
A new iWorks that creates clean HTML output? Apple buys SoundEdit Pro and Fontographer from Macromedia? Truthfully, what Steve has up his sleeve looks mostly like talcum powder and Musk Mennen. |

Things I would love to see:
• Dual - Core G4 Powerbooks announced; • Definite release date (or month) for Intel Powerbooks (with benchmarks showing they are equal or greater than the current G4's); • Apple PDA; • iPhoto 6 that actually works. Things I think we will actually see in reality: • iTunes phone (Finally!) • More details on Leopard; • More stuff on Intel, maybe benchmarks? • More stuff about HD. 2005 is the year of HD remember! |
Bluetooth headphones and a BT-enabled iPod would be on my buy-immediately list. Hopefully the headphones would be a headset too.

Just a note on the original post... Tablets were a flop on PC and sincew then all sites have been saying that this has been shelved and will not be developped anymore. But generally speaking I would tend to agree with iNemo's post... More info than hardware.
|
15" widescreen, speed bumped Powerbook is a good bet.
|
|
Tablets were a flop? Really? I haven't paid attention to the news on them, but everyone I know that has one loves it. I would have been all over one if they came with decent resolution and larger screens.
|
The main issue with them has been that they almost all ran on P3s and not newer and faster P4s... And your one of the only people I've encountered that actually has good feedback on them... Most people I've heard found them slow and not that much more practical than other laptops and they are more expensive and more fragile... But I have to mention that I work alot with MDs so it may be that they hate them because they write too poorly for the handwriting to recognize theirs :D
|
My understanding with the tablet PCs was that they are really only useful for the "meeting goers," those people working in collaborative office environments who basically never in their office. MDs would count in this group, going to meetings all day with patients
This segment would eat them up if battery life could get pushed to 8-10 hours or something. But that's clearly a ways off. I don't know if any of that is true. |
I think the tablet idea would be good if they designed it like a laptop, only the keyboard/speaker/mousepad half could be removed (via Bluetooth) so that it can be reversed (ie the monitor faces the opposite way for dispay purposes, or be removed altogether and hung on a wall or on a kiosk stand. Of course, they would have touchscreen technology included--and perhaps a new way to do that as well, such as optic fiber on the edge or something like that. They would have to be lightweight and sturdy construction. Both of which Apple is pretty good at.
|
Interesting points, maybe the expectations were the problem. I would use mine to draw out ideas all the time, and to take notes. I do that on my Pocket PC now, but the screen is too small for larger ideas and long notes.
A tablet with a large high-res display and good CPU would have limited battery life, but would be useful as a main machine. For some of us, it would be enough life to justify owning one. |
The keyboard could be used for extended batter life. In other words, by default it comes with a battery in the display (as well as input for external power). The keyboard could have an extra battery that can be applied via the hinges. Oh, to work for Apple in R&D. ;)
