Ooooh! So it's not really giving an error message when the burn fails then.
With the blank dvd in the drive, what do you get when you type "hdiutil info" in a Terminal window (It'll help not to have any disc images mounted) Also copy something from the Finder into the dvd, and when the copy process is finished, immediately eject the disc (i.e don't burn) Do you get a 'cannot eject - media in use' error? |
hdiutil info

Welcome to Darwin! [Graphics-One:~] root# hdiutil info framework : 76.4 revision : 10.3.4d76.4 vendor : Apple ================================================ image-path : /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/dvdr-proxy.dmg image-alias : /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/dvdr-proxy.dmg shadow-path : /tmp/burndiskE0BTli shadow-alias : icon-path : /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskImages.framework/Resources/CDiskImage.icns image-type : UDIF read-only (shadowed) blockcount : 9011200 blocksize : 512 writeable : TRUE autodiskmount : TRUE removable : TRUE image-encrypted : false mounting user : root mounting group : wheel,daemon,kmem,sys,tty,operator,staff,guest,admin mounting mode : <unknown> process ID : 449 /dev/disk3 /Volumes/Y [Graphics-One:~] root# |
I was asking about the above because I was wondering if the error messages you were getting were concerning the disc image that is mounted when a blank dvd is inserted into the drive, rather than when the dvd is itself burnt.

Also it won't hurt to use the "lsof" command immediately before trying to eject the dvd to see if there are any files still open on "/Volumes/Y" If files are still open (and/or the eject fails) then this would suggest there is an issue with the copying or disc image mounting process. Otherwise I would assume the problem lies with the driver software for the superdrive model you are using. You said previously that some work and some don't. Typing "drutil info" for each machine and comparing results might allow you to determine whether there is a link with the precise model of superdrive installed and whether it burns or not. If you can find a link then calling Apple or your dealer is probably the only way forward. |
Thanks, try to get to it tomorrrow.

Installed Toast
Successfully burned both DVD and CD after installiing Toast (temporary fix), but iDVD again failed to successfully burn a DVD.
Thanks for all your recommendations. I will continue troubleshooting the issue with those suggestions above that I have not tried. I wonder if the 10.3.8 update will fix the issue. Please advise. Thanks! |
