Mozilla for Windows Help? (solved)

I know this is a mac forum, but you all gotta help me. I am on windows 2K at work, and have been running Mozilla, trying to avoid IE. (I have to have my tabbed browsing!!)
Ever since rc2 or rc3, i've started getting errors when starting Mozilla. Something about xpcom.dll. There is indeed a xpcom.dll in the Mozilla application folder. The biggest problem, I can't modify preferences, or bookmarks. When I open either menu item, the window that pops up has all the items there, but I can't click ANYTHING.
I'm not sure anyone here will know about the windows version, and bugzilla has been no help. Any windows forums (*shudder*) that I can go lurk?
I'm guessing that I cannot just delete that .dll.. I've used the uninstaller to try and do a "clean" install, but that hasn't helped. Does the "Add/Remove Programs" really get rid of all parts of a program?

Thanks all.

AKcrab 06-05-2002 05:05 PM

Fixed my problem. Add/Remove Programs doesn't appear to do anything. After using it, I went searching for the Application directory, and it was still there. After manually removing the offending app, and reinstalling Mozzila 1.0 (YAY), al is well.
I hate windows.

mervTormel 06-05-2002 05:21 PM

hate is such an ugly word.

now, Abhor, Detest, Abominate, Loathe, Contempt, Dispise, Disgust, Odious, Repellent, Repulsive, those are some handsome words. toothsome, too.

fsck it, drive on...

AKcrab 06-05-2002 05:24 PM

Let me rephrase:
I Abhor, Detest, Abominate, Loathe, and Dispise Windows. I find it Disgusting, Odious, Repellent, and Repulsive. It fills me with Contempt. :D

Craig R. Arko 06-05-2002 05:26 PM

So, you don't like it much, huh? :D

mervTormel 06-05-2002 05:31 PM

gold star on your grammer test

lol, your grammer is stellar.

funny, i have always felt the same way. i often wonder what the status quo would be without windoze.

Craig R. Arko 06-05-2002 05:36 PM

Probably DOS. :p Or maybe GEM.

mervTormel 06-05-2002 05:51 PM

i meant "the status quo of the world if Billy Goat was an insurance saleman in Poughkeepsie instead of the 'original software pirate'"

i think we'd be either light-years ahead or behind, but either one is desirable to a world with windoze. it really is an abomination on the senses and its popularity reveals a lot of unsavory truths about the mass populace (ba-aa-aa-ah!).

anyhow, this thread will spiral into truculent vituperation if we persist. not that i mind.

AKcrab 06-05-2002 06:13 PM

Truculent-
1 : feeling or displaying ferocity : CRUEL, SAVAGE
2 : DEADLY, DESTRUCTIVE
3 : scathingly harsh : VITRIOLIC
4 : aggressively self-assertive : BELLIGERENT

Vituperation-
1 : sustained and bitter railing and condemnation : vituperative utterance
2 : an act or instance of vituperating
synonym see ABUSE

For the benefit of the other readers.. Wait, what other readers? I'm sure this thread is dead.

Two new words in one day! Thanks Merv! :D

mervTormel 06-05-2002 06:22 PM

lol, yeah, i'm a bit of a word hound, and i especially like the acerbic ones that evoke vitriol and rancor and invective and acrimony.

OK, Coat Room, immediately. :)

Man, I love this software...

AKcrab 06-05-2002 06:43 PM

Wow! One thread locked, and one moved to the coat room today! I'm on a ROLL! :p

To try and maintain some kind of topic... I have used windows 98, NT, and now 2K. 2K is by far the best of the lot. The best part of using windows at work: I appreciate my computer at home even more.

Without windoze, would Steve be Bill? Would Apple be Microsoft? Would every business in the world be using Appleworks?

Craig R. Arko 06-05-2002 06:50 PM

I'm sorry, AK ...

But I have to keep up my "tinplated, overbearing, swaggering dictator with delusions of godhood (but not soft)" reputation. ;)

If you'd like, I'll open up your thread on Silk and close mine, just to be fair.

And wait 'til you get that golden opportunity to step up to XP; be prepared to learn some new cuss words to celebrate. Oh, and without Bill, they'd probably be using WordPerfect, 1-2-3, and dBase (all for CP/M) instead.

Well, that's quite a kind offer coming from someone of such power and godliness ;), however you completely beat me to it, and it would be very unfair to close your topic (which atually has replies) and open mine. I'm man enough to admit my mistakes. hehe

:( Merv? I'm gonna need some more words. Actually, I think my company is sticking with 2K. I certainly hope so.

Affirmative. That's what started this whole thing. I was willing to put up with buggy release candidates, well, because they weren't final. When 1.0 was realeased, I imediately tried installing it, and it was just as buggy as the releases. I couldn't change ANYTHING in ANY of the settings windows. Bookmarks, history, preferences. Seriously makes browsing no fun.

I finally did get 1.0 installed, and am as happy as a clam.

Take a peek at this theme for Mozilla:

Looks cool!

AKcrab 06-05-2002 07:58 PM

There's that damn silk thread again.. dschep just posted the same Navzilla thing I did here over there.

It's just not my day. I give up. No more posts till tomorrow! :D

How now, wool-sack, what mutter you? oh, words for not upgrading to XP? you pusillanimous, cre-crawing dew-berry! Thou misbegotten beetle-headed skainsmate! Thou art pigeon-liver'd and lack gall! A weasel hath not such a deal of spleen as you are toss'd with.

but, i jest. actually, it sounds like 'upgrading' to XP is woefully lamentable. to me, it is indicative of M$'s increased efforts to sustain it's hegemony.

Mmmmm Beeeeer...
I must say, we have one of the worlds finest brewing companies in Juneau, AK. Alaskan Brewing and Bottling Co. My favorite is the ESB.
http://www.alaskanbeer.com/beer/images/esb-bottle.jpg
But they are all very good. Their brews have won many awards nationally, as well as internationally.

Since I refuse to post in that other thread; I LOVE SILK!!

I'm getting the impression that windows 2K will have to be upgraded to XP? You're making a marginal day even less apealing. :D
I jest. Today was a rather good day, actually.
