So it looks like the problem is with the Internet Sharing setup. Just to be sure, you did click on the Start button in Sharing Preference, right?

rj89 01-08-2005 09:15 PM

i'll try buying a crossover cable. does it look like i setup everything ok? if so then ill get the cable, if not then i might as well get the (Belkin F5D6050 Wireless USB Network Adapter) for $30. which would seem more logical. But i did here belkin sucks.

rj89 01-08-2005 09:20 PM

personal web sharing on
personal file sharing on

firewall off

internet sharing on
ethernet to ethernet (this is what i was told to put as) Currently

rj89 01-08-2005 09:22 PM

what should my ibooks sharing prefs' be ?

rj89 01-08-2005 09:35 PM

new development ! I can mount my PB now on the ibook. Still no internet though.

cwtnospam 01-08-2005 09:42 PM

Ok, so now try turning off internet sharing and then turning it back on.
Your ethernet cable is probably fine.

rj89 01-08-2005 09:49 PM

im going out to drink now. ill be back in few hrs.
thanks for all your help everyone :)

cwtnospam 01-08-2005 09:52 PM

Ah, to be in college again...
:o

rj89 01-09-2005 02:50 AM

i wish i was still in college. i've been out for a year. I just like alcohol and women. :D Anyways as I was saying I turned it off, then on still no internet connection. Maybe my ibook sharing and network prefs ?

cwtnospam 01-09-2005 09:29 AM

When you've been out for a lot longer than that, chances are that one of thos women will have decided that you shoudn't be going out drinking on a Saturday night. Especially to a place where there are lots of single women!

Anyway, back to the problem:

You've got cable or dsl going ethernet to the Airport Hub, then Airport to the iBook, then ethernet to the Powerbook, right? What are the tcp/ip settings for each laptop?
Address:
subnet:
router:
DNS servers:
Search Domains:

cwtnospam 01-09-2005 09:30 AM

Also, do you need to connect using PPPoE?

rj89 01-09-2005 06:07 PM

I'm not connected to a (router, hub.etc) i'm connected to a wireless network (my neighbors). theirs two plugs/wires connected to my laptop right now (power plug, and ethernet cable - to ibook to share). My ibook settings are:

sharing first:
personal file sharing on
personal web sharing on

firewall off

internet sharing on

network settings:

using DHCP
192.168.2.4(provided by DHCP server)
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
router 192.168.2.1
DHCP Client ID is Optional
DNS servers:192.231.221.1

Im not using PPOE

appletalk off
no proxies on

File sharing works. I can mount my PB on my Ibook fine.
Yet no internet connection?

cwtnospam 01-09-2005 06:35 PM

Ok, so it looks like you're connecting from the iBook through the Powerbook to the Airport ok, because you've got an ip address. What I'm thinking is that there is either something wrong with the NAT on the Airport (don't have one, so I can't help there) or maybe the Powerbook is doing PPPoE. If it is, they you would need to do it too.
What are the Powerbook's ip settings?

rj89 01-09-2005 07:02 PM

well in network status both airport and built in ethernet have green lights.

built in ethernet:
using DHCP w/ manual address:192.168.2.3
subnet:255.255.255.0
no router because i'm wirelessly connected
DNS servers: 192.231.221.1
IPv6 - auto

no PPoE
appletalk off - should it be on?
no proxies
ethernet ID: automatic

Sharing :

personal file sharing on
personal web sharing on
firewall off
internet sharing on: sharing built in ethernet connection to cpu's using built in ethernet.

By the way thanks for all your help I really appreciate it. :)

You are wirelessly connected to the Airport router. What is it's IP address? I'm assuming it's 192.16.12.1

Internet sharing should be : sharing Airport connection to cpu's using built in ethernet. This is your problem!

rj89 01-09-2005 07:36 PM

in a earlier post someone wrote it should be ethernet to ethernet. So I assumed that was right. (And yes I know when you assume you make an ass out of you and me) :) I originally had internet sharing: airport to built in ethernet but like I said I was told that was wrong.

Just did it while typing this. That was it. I should have never 2nd guessed myself.

Thank you very much cwtnospam.

You are the Man or Woman. I assume man. :D

cwtnospam 01-09-2005 07:52 PM

Glad I could help.
So how'd it go last night? Us married guys have to live vicariously.

I don't want to type it because I hate it "lol". Anyways, had fun. Talked a little game (all had boyfriends), drank a little beer. heard good music. All in all a good night though(even though no action was had by me.
New Years Eve THAT was fun

cwtnospam 01-09-2005 09:12 PM
