Acrobat Reader drag and drop won't open

I like to drag and drop documents onto an application icon/alias to open them, but one application that does not work in OSX is Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5. The same version in OS9 works correctly. I can drop PDF documents onto Preview, and they open that way, and once running, Acrobat Reader can open PDF files, but not using drag and drop. In addition, I also cannot Quit the application, either with CMD-Q or the menu item, but must use Force Quit.

I'm wondering if there are some settings to an app in OSX that can affect this behavior, as Acrobat Reader works fine otherwise, and no other app I have does this.

Ideas?

If drag and drop opens in Preview but not Acrobat Reader, it seems to me that your preferences have Preview as your default pdf viewer. No? If so, changing to Acrobat through Show Info on a pdf file should get you results.

I don't know about the quit problem, however. The old chestnut of re-installing the software after deleting the old one and its preferences might help.

Hmm, Preview is a mystery, but does open many types of files on drag and drop. But even files with the Acrobat logo will not open when dropped on Acrobat Reader.

I've tried removing and re-installing Acrobat Reader 5 several times with same results, and still can't quit the application. As usual, getting support from Adobe is fruitless.
