Check out www.allofmp3.com, and some information at http://www.museekster.com/allofmp3info.htm

Do a google search for "allofmp3.com" and "legal", and you'll discover tons of threads discussing the legality or illegality of this service.

Essentially, this is a business in Moscow that sells music files for pennies each... the RIAA has no jurisdiction in Russia, and the Russian government has an organization called ROMS that handles intellectual property issues. Within Russia, this service is legal. Whether someone in the U.S. can legally download the files is at issue, but check it out for yourself.

I'm surprised no ones yet mentioned both Overnet and IRC - great resources for the anti-navy minded.

Overnet is (at the moment, GUI on the way) a text-based client and is really meant for always-on connections and produces great results if you just leave it and forget about it for a few days. IRC is always worth it if you can stand wasting a few hours and having to deal with pimply teenagers who haven't seen the light of day since the last Trekkie convention.

Not that I use or condone such methods - but it's good to know whats out there. And, as always, "it's better to be a pirate than part of the navy" (Steve Jobs). Wonder if he'd say the same now? ;)

says it's a "proof of concept", but the guy claims to have done the wintel version as well - could mean somethings coming

This is as good a time as any to point out that the Russian government does not set the policy of this forum. (Not even the 1945 variant.) :)

Having said that, as long as this thread remains clean and about software that does indeed have legitimate uses, it will remain open. If people start pointing to sites for swapping questionable content, it won't. Just a precautionary reminder.

Thanks; carry on.

Depends on what type of stuff you're trying to DL. Personally, for the files I like to "Trade" I use xNap from sourceforge that connects to OpenNap servers (and winMx type servers) (problem is that napigator which stores the server locations is currently down so you'd need to find someone with a server list you can borrow)
