iMovie "Wrong Format" ??
why when i try to bring my iMovie into iDVD, i get the msg Wrong format?
|
Did it work before some event?
Are these apps of similar vintage? (BTW: all these posts should really be in Applications, not Hardware. :D) |
oh, i didn't know there are separate chat rooms, sorry.
I have been using iMovie & iDVD, for a few years on my powerPC, now its giving me problems. |

Nothing changed, nothing different, correct

"Unsupported Format" is the message when i try to bring iTunes music into iDVD, same message when i try to bring a iMovie into iDVD. This has worked for years, now it doesn't. I have deleted all relative preferences, but in a funk as to what to do
|
There's a few threads that you can google about your issue.
https://www.google.com/search?client...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 Sample: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18722650#18722650 |
DeltaMac, it worked !
I copied my iTunes file onto the desktop, opened up an app called Audacity, imported it, and saved as a aiff file, which works on both iMovie and iDVD. |
Now that i have my music issue solved, i need to try to be able to get my iMovie into my iDVD. I get the error message "Unsupported File Type : Unknown Format"
|
Have you searched for your error? There's lots of threads with possible fixes. Not sure which will help you, however.
https://www.google.com/search?client...+Format&rls=en Which app is producing that error - iMovie, or iDVD? That distinction may allow you to refine your search to a more limited list of potential fixes. What versions of iDVD and iMovie are you using - and what version of OS X are you running? |
As I posted before, i fixed the music problem by converting mp3 to aiff……
works well in iMovie HD 6.0.3 |
iDVD v7.0.4 problem not resolved.
I can not bring iMovie into it. When i try to "Add a Movie, i have a broken link, also states "Movie path not defined" I have tried saving my iMovie into DV format also. |
Ah - multiple errors, with multiple fixes… All you can do is try some things, and if the error changes, search some more.
Which error is it? "Movie path not defined"? or "Unsupported File Type : Unknown Format"? Sometimes a single word can make a big difference :D "Movie path not yet defined" is mentioned in this support article. Maybe it will help with your situation. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5422 |
Resolved the Path not defined, i had no button.
I now am attempting to add iMovie file into iDVD, either drag and drop( i always did it this way) or ad "Add Movie" from lower left + sign. Either way nothing happens. |
Note the time that you make that attempt to add a movie. Check in the logs (in the Applications/Utilities/Console) for relevant messages from that time. You can look in system.log, or check to see if there are logs specific to the iDVD app

Here's one message that I see a lot in your log
Quote:
When I searched, then I see a couple of common fixes: Make a copy of your iMovie project, and then check to see if that project copy will work. I would also try logging in to a different user account (make a new user account just for this test), and try to open your project in iMovie HD, and then try to import into iDVD. I would also (after that variety of different problems) uninstall and reinstall your iLife software from the original disk. |
I really appreciate your help on this.

Two more questions:
(1) when attempting to add a movie to iDVD, i get a broken link icon, with red dot at bottom left with the words "Movie path not defined (2) I do not have iLife, just iMovie HD , is that a problem? |
No, no problem to reinstall.
And, the iMovie 6 HD is part of iLife '06. iMovie is a custom install from the iLife installer. Apple did provide a free download of just iMovie HD, when iLife '08 was first released. But, that download disappeared when iLife '09 was released. Before you do delete the iMovie 6 HD to prepare to reinstall - be sure that you do, in fact, have that iLife '06 or iMovie HD installer. That's your way back. Again, that "Movie Path not yet defined" should be a button problem (it verifies that all menu buttons are properly linked to valid paths. If not, you get that message). If there's not a good link to the movie from that button, then you can drag your movie file to that button, which will fix that error. More on the link that I posted in post #13, but here it is again :D http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5422?v...S&locale=en_US |
