Now Contact (and UTD) is working just fine for me. I just hope they FINALLY ship the server packages as daemons.

NowContact/UpToDate

UpToDate works fine for me, attempting to launch Now Contact brings up a dialog box (a Now Contact one, not an OS X one) after the splash saying "No Such Volume Exists".

Wait a minute, I just tried it a third time to make sure I got the dialog verbiage correct and it launched OK! The first attempt at launching it, I tried via the QuickContact menu item. The second time by double clicking the contact file itself. Now it launches successfully either way.

DiskWarrior 3

Please see the "DiskWarrior 3 and 10.3" thread where I've posted a reply to another individual who also experienced failure with this powerful utility working with Panther. I've given detailed information in the other thread on the particular kind of failure and different "strategies" I employed without success. (I was hoping to avoid such problems when I did an erase-and-clean install of Panther, alas.)

Process Viewer, CPU Moniter?

After upgrading to Panther I found that I was missing several utility programs. Did anyone else notice if their process viewer and the CPU moniter were missing?

Process Viewer has become an app called Activity Monitor. I believe CPU monitor was rolled into it as well.

PithHelmet (Safari ad blocker) requires new patch

The bad news: PithHelmet does not work with 10.3 and Safari 1.1 to block ads.

The good news: the creative author of this lovely added feature for using Safari posted a notice on his website on Oct. 20 that he was going on vacation on Panther's release date but would develop a new patch after his return:

Please click here for PithHelmet info and "Latest News" link

The menu extra "Classic Spy" does not work - no update available.
Note, there is an build-in "ClassicSpy" in Panther. Look in the Classic-Pref.Pane!

yep, copypaste-x is broken. one cannot type the lowercase letter "c" when the application is running. the developers are aware of it:

synergy 1.0a broken too

synergy just disappears from my menu bar, usually when my computer goes to sleep. i am also finding that when i wake from sleep, i get the beachball and everything locks up. i did a clean install of 10.3 and i am thinking about going back to 10.2.8 because of all of these problems. my backup program does not work, deja vu either. bummer...

Magic Menu of Stuffit Deluxe 7.0.3 update

I found a fix for Magic Menu of Stuffit Deluxe 7.0.3 not working. I loaded Unsanity's Haxie "Menu Extra Enabler", and it worked! I now have that functionality back.

Re: Synergy 1.0a; not broke here...

It works fine for me.

It is a bummer that Deja Vu doesn't though; I've read it's because the Unix too psync isn't available for Panther yet. That can't be for long, I'd guess...

Palm Problems

Heya,

I was using Palm Desktop just fine in Panther for a while. Just yesterday it stopped syncing :( I will try copying my HotSync prefs from my Jaguar backup. I hope that works cuz I just got a new Tungsten T3, and now cant install anything on it :(

Palm problems...

What's the failure mode?

I had some problems initially, but they went away when I re-installed the desktop and isync packages.

Oooo.. that reminds me. Look in /Library/Palm Hotsync/Conduits. If you have *both* the "Apple" conduit *and* the "Address", "Datebook" and "ToDo" conduits, hotsync will hang. Delete either "Apple" or the other three to restore the built-in conduits or iSync.

Applescript droplet crashes...

Long time ago I wrote "gimpopen" which runs as a droplet. You drag pictures onto it, and it loads them into the Gimp. Works fine in all releases up thru 10.2.8.

In 10.3, it generates a SIGBUS (!?! Applescript generating a SIGBUS !?! ). Worst part, it generates the SIGBUS *after* gimp has launched, apparently in "end open" statement:
Code:

on open these_items
        check_for_x()
        set posix_files to ""
repeat with i from 1 to the count of these_items
                set this_item to (item i of these_items)
                set posix_files to posix_files & " \"" & (POSIX path of this_item) & "\""
        end repeat
        do shell script ENVIRON & "; gimp-remote-1.2 -n " & posix_files & " >/dev/null 2>&1 &"
end open

Anyone else having trouble with droplets?

i just received this from alsoft

DiskWarrior v3.0 will rebuild the directory of a disk running Mac OS X
10.3 when started under Mac OS X 10.2.x. The best way to achieve this is
to start the computer from the DiskWarrior CD or another media source
running Mac OS X 10.2.x and run DiskWarrior from there.

DiskWarrior v3.0 will not rebuild the directory of a disk when started
under Mac OS X 10.3.

We hope to release a new version of DiskWarrior in mid November. This
new version of DiskWarrior will run under Mac OS X 10.2.x and later,
including 10.3.

Mail, Sherlock, DVD Player, Address Book no worky

I have 2 machines, a Quicksilver single proc 800Mhz and a Powerbook 12in 2002. On the Quicksilver my mail, address book, sherlock, and others are not working. On the powerbook, DVD Player is not working. I do not know why this is happening, and I am getting different error for each one. I have tried deleting preferences, no help. I am also seeing Panther not hold my network preferences as well. These apps listed just bounce in the dock, and nothing happens (not even an error message- just the console output, which I do not have with me). Of course, my Toast is not working either, but I am using like 5.2 or something. If anyone has any ideas other than a wipe and reload?

(BTW: These are the only applications that I have found that do not work so far, I haven't had a whole lot of time to troubleshoot this)

Thanks,

"Mail, Sherlock, DVD Player, Address Book no worky "

Have you run Repair Permissions on the drive yet? I've seen that fix similar issues. And all of these apps are Apple apps, so bad permissions could be at play.

Welles Goodrich 10-30-2003 09:23 PM

After an archive and install, I ran into a number of the issues others have already mentioned. PTH Clock acted erratically, particularly the dropdown calendar wouldn't drop. I had the CopyPaste lower case 'c' bug where the c key would not work in any text situation although shift + c would give an upper case character and Command + c would copy. Synergy made the lower case 'a' keystroke inoperable in any text use but Command + a would still select all. (Yellow provided the answer on these forums to that one. He had noticed the problem elsewhere and provided me the solution.) MenuPrefs, a menu extra which allows accessing Pref Panes stopped functioning. Clicking on it did nothing. Finally, I did find the Spell Catcher odd alert windows at Login.

Hi

When I read that your settings don't seem to be sticking, it reminded me of articles I've read about people having problems with FileVault. Don't suppose you've enabled it?

Just a thought.

Rob.

palm problems too

My desktop isn't syncing anymore. I just copied my previous file to an external hard drive. Is there anyway to boot up from there if I hadn't backed the system up b4 installing Panther?
