Restoring an iTunes preference: Warn before deleting playlists!
 

iTunes used to ask me whether I "really" wanted to delete a playlist. At some point, I must have checked the box to "never ask me again." Now I wish it would ask me if I'm sure before deleting since I've accidentally deleted a few that I really didn't want to delete. I looked in the pref, but I didn't see anything matching that description. Can anyone tell me how to restore the preference to "warn before deleting playlist?" Thanks! :confused:

Good question. But 'Be careful of what you wish (select) for' springs to mind :D

I do know that it is stored in:and if you quit iTunes and delete that file it will go back to warning you, but you will have to step through the initial setup stuff again and reset whatever prefs you had set.

Thanks, but does anyone know the name of the item inside that pref file? I'd rather not have to delete the entire file.

You can move the /Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist file to a different location, this lets iTunes create you a new one.
I could imagine a new prefs file is small enough so you can hunt for the required item.
Once found, it isn't too hard to patch the original plist and move it back in place.

I don't see anything obvious in the .plist. I expected to find something to the effect of 'warn me = false'.

Hi yellow! To make hunting this down easier, you should:
1. After moving the plist, restart iTunes and immediately exit it.
2. Make a copy of this virgin plist.
3. Restart iTunes, navigate to figz's box to "never ask me again." and click it.
4. Exit iTunes and compare the copy with the modified plist.

The differences should be minimal, but crucial! :cool:

Nope, I did a quick test and it looked like one of those big long encoded data items like (not necessarily this one)Changed. I didn't see which one though, cause after I saw what changed I gave up.
